Where is a good place to buy furnace/stove oil in small quantities?
I want to buy a jug of oil for the furnce in my shop but instead of diesel was wondering if there is a cheaper alternative?

Wilson's stations down here sell it at the pump, cheaper than the trucks. Been buying all mine that way for years.

When an oil truck driver is in your neighborhood ask them, I think they print my bill in the truck.

I'm pretty sure the Wilsons in Sackville sells furncae oil. You can use diesel also, its the same except for the dye.

No, furnace oil has a wax in it too, burns a little hotter than diesel, and will plug up diesel injectors.

You can def burn diesel in an oil furnace though. Dad used to do it a lot when we were super poor.

I've burned diesel a few times too, put 20L in when we got the furnace set up and it lasted us 4 days in January

This was a couple years ago, but an Irving truck driver told me he delivered both from the same truck, same tank. Dye was injected for furnace oil when he punched in "Furnace Oil" in the computer that also spit out the bill.

That could just be Irving Glen. My father has to use diesel fuel for his Monitor (stove oil would be even better), furnace oil will foul it up quick.
I read on the TDI forum that people had tried furnace oil, and it clogged injectors.
Could be something right in the dye too.

I wouldn't put it past the petro companies to be putting wax/some other additive into the furnace oil simply to make it incompatible with diesel engines. Wouldn't want folks burning 90c/L furnace oil when they could be burning 1.30 diesel now would we?

Alot of the difference in the price is "road" tax Yeah the oil companies don't see much diff between selling the two... the government does.
