Howdy all,
I've been thinking of ordering a few parts that are hard to find around here for cheap (tranny mount for one). Have a friend who wants a part or 2 also which he can't find around here, so we were thinking of going and ordering from Rock Auto.
Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with them lately?

Once, depending on the price it will probably double due to brokerage fees and duty.

I'm just looking for a transmission mount for my 94 grand cherokee, I think I checked with Pecks when I had my 95 and they couldn't get one.

I'd check again, I'm pretty sure they can get it. Shouldn't be a problem to get one from any parts supplier.

I love rock auto for researching parts, but I haven't ordered from them because of their crazy shipping. They do not have just one physical location, they have dozens all across the US.
Say you want a starter, brakes and a bearing.
If the starter and brakes are in one warehouse, and then the bearing is in another location, you will receive 2 shipping costs. This starts to get really ridiculous after 4 or 5 item locations. They do have a method of checking which items are coming from what locations so you can attempt to get them all in one shipment, but I found that I couldn't most of the time for multiple items. Combine that, with the possible brokerage fees across the border, and you can see why I haven't bothered.
In the states where shipping is stupid cheap and no extra fees, that site would be great. But just not really here.
Some stuff I get on ebay, but more often than not I'm buying local just to avoid the hasstle. (er, and to support local!)

If you do ship from the states clear the package yourself. You don't have to pay the brokerage fees that ups or FedEx charge you for. Just the GST. Saved myself 70 bucks on my latest order by clearing it myself.

Jeff I've heard of it being done ( you have to go to a customs office) but my recollection with rockauto is that they automatically bill you, duty and all, when you checkout. With all the options available rockauto is on the bottom of my list. The part I needed was for my Jeepster and it was out of stock through Crown one of the companies APJ uses, and not available elsewhere in Canada.

Yea. Use the site for parts research though. It is great to pick a part, then find what all other vehicles it was found on

It is is fairly easy. Jeffrey you should be able to go to the Moncton office for customs and clear the package there. It is your legal right to clear your shipment yourself. If anyone has. An questions pm me and I will try to help.

Thought I'd dredge this up from the past. I had to order a few parts I couldn't find around here, but found on Rock Auto. The good news is all their broker fees and all that stuff is included in the final sales price now, so when you check out it's alllllllll good.
Still can't find my Mr Gasket #1937...hmmmm...can't remember if I called Pecks o.0

I have ordered from Rock Auto, it was one part, and it was because I couldnt get it at a reasonable price around here. Paid 35 for the part and 25 for shipping, there was no extra cost when it arrived and was exactly as stated on the website.
