COOL! Cindy and I are doing the Cabot Trail in our 1971 F-350 Scamper next week!! Kind of living on the edge taking the old camper but we got CAA RV just in case! I can't wait, we are fishing the Margaree for two days then doing the tour. Cindy's family is from CB but I have never been. I'm quite excited but at the same time I am very nervous of these huge hills we have to climb and descend, everyone keeps telling us make sure your brakes are good!! Cindy posted that we are going to God's Country next week, and someone (a Newf) said "You are going to Newfoundland?"..."Oh, I guess there are two God's Country's." Cindy said and the Newf replied "Caper's are just Newfies that never made it to Toronto." LOL I thought it was funny, I hope it isn't offensive Cheers! Jeff good luck with the trip . Lynn and I had a 1970 E300 Triple E motor home up till about 10 years ago . We were planing a trip to Bar Harbour one time and i said we should take the Ford .She didn't want to sense it was so old .I assured her all would be fine . well , we made it there but on the first morning when we went to leave the park , I turned the key and nothing , not even a click . turned out to only be the battery lead to the starter . The next night we were on the way back to another park and the headlights went out.not a street light anywhere ,total darkness , miles from the nearest anything .found a short . after that ,not a thing went wrong but we never made another long trip .sold it . miss it . you folks have a safe trip . The cooling system is our only worry, she has all new hoses and fluid but the rad is about the only part we wouldn't be able to find in a pinch, they don't make them anymore so finding a replacement may be a challenge.

Even if yas run into trouble....more than enough ppl will be willing to help...its not like other provinces..LOL.
I've been working in NB the past 10 yrs....was getting gas one day and seen this family of 4(from NS) with the hood up....swung over after i was finished asked if they needed a hand (AC pulley seized)...Yound guy had no tools to swap a shorter belt....drove him to the parts store a couple times for proper belt and to my place for tools.....when i was about to leave, they said "you're not originally from here are you?"....i said nope...LOL. I think they were there in the parking lot for a while..it was a nice sunday afternoon..no one else wanted to get greasy...i did..lol.

Haha awesome!! Nova Scotian's have to be about the friendliest outgoing people I have met. (Not all but most, there are a few bad apples) My family is all from the Valley but I was born and raised in Ottawa but I am the same way, I can't help but stop if it looks like someone needs help, I've regretted it a time or two as well..lol One time I was in the Valley with my Mazda 626 and I broke down, got out and took the egine apart to find that my piston had broke, so I saw this pick up truck coming up the road and I flagged them down and it was a bunch of Capers. They said "what seems to be the problem?", I told them that my piston broke! They said "don't worry about it, get on in, we're piss'd and broke too!!! Jamie, I hope we have better luck than you did..lol Cheers! Jeff

The trip was amazing!! Cape Breton is the most beautiful place I have ever been! The people were the friendliest!! I was in awe the entire trip!! We boondocked the ol' Scamper wherever we could find a nice spot on the ocean to park it. Waking up in the morning and stepping out of the camper with my coffee on to a beach along the ocean was priceless. I'll post some pics when we get through them all.... The first night we parked along the Margaree River, the second night in a little field by the ocean in Pleasant Bay, the third night along the beach in Ingonish Harbour and then by the Canso Causway on the last night before heading home. Only managed to see one Moose on the dirt road coming out of Mary Anne Falls...I was starting to believe there were no moose in CB...LOL it was sad to see the rivers so dry, the Margaree wasn't even worth fishing it was so low but we decided to wet a line in the North Aspy and caught some beautiful wild brook trout and kept a couple that we took right back to the camper and cooked up for supper. We did manage to find a nice pool on the North River that had 20 or 30 Salmon in it but being so low and clear they were too spooked to take a fly, if we could see them, they could see us! The camper worked flawlessly except for two times where she sputtered a bit and was backfiring through the carb but it only lasted a couple minutes each time, she made easy work of all the hills. It was the best vacation that I ever had. The only expense was our gasoline, we boondocked our camper everywhere so no fees and cooked all our own meals in the camper with food we brought from home. I loved CB so much that I had tears in my eye when we left. Might go back next month and maybe in October for the celtic colours festival. Cheers! Jeff

glad to hear you guys liked the Cape. the Cabot Trail is a pretty gnarly road eh? i knew the ol ford wouldn't let you down! The ol' Ford handled that trail awesomely. We found out yesterday that it has a 390 in it, not a 360 as we originally thought. Maybe that's why it hauled its ass up the hills so easily. I'll post some of my favourite pics from the trip once I get some time. I'm still editing them, only have up to Day 2 finished. We want to go back in August, and again in October for the Celtic Colours Festival. We already have respite booked for Jeff's mom. We'll need to have some work done on the RV before the next trip though. It's getting a tune-up (Pertronix ignition too), and I think the backfiring blew a hole in the exhaust manifold gasket (I think it already had a small leak to begin with). Hopefully it's just a doughnut gasket, but from what I've read FE engines are notorious for blowing manifold gaskets. But once those things are taken care of, we're on the road again and we can't wait!!! Cindy

I had a friend sleep with a moose once at Fisherman's cove. Apparently the smell didn't turn the moose off. Actually, he camped there with his father in law. He got up around 2a to use the foliage and noticed a moose eating the grass next to the father in laws tent. Brave as he was, he crawled back into his tent, pulled his sleeping bag up around his ears, repeated some catholic prayers and spent the rest of the night saucer eyed and shaking. When they got up the moose had camped the rest of the night with them, sleeping next to his father in laws tent. It eventually got up and went on its way. Fortunately for them it wasn't rutting season. So if you want to see some moose give Fisherman's Cove a try. I don't think the Ford will make it down there though.

PM me if you don't want to offend anyone...I was through there years and years ago and the only thing I really remember was rude francais but I wasn't really on vacation and didn't have time to really stop and enjoy it. The reason I ask is we had friends tell us that we really should do the Gaspe. We are planning to make another trip to CB in mid August but this trip will be more about fishing than the sights, mind you you can't help but see sights in CB... I LOVE IT!! Cheers! Jeff

Jeff My honest thoughts are it is a beautiful place and the people were great . We speak little to no french and had no problems at all . the folks would try to help us , and if they didn,t speak english they would find someone who did . we even had people in the line ups at different places inturpet between us . it was an amazing trip but it still isn't Cape Breton.
