Okay, so I get up Saturday morning, sick as a dog with a crazy sore throat. I jump in the Jeep and head to Superstore to get some medicine. It's only 2 minutes from my house. On the way back I notice that the Jeep is shifting into second a little harder than usual. I don't think much of it, I'm sick I get up later on in the day and, feeling a bit better, I decide to go out and take off the trailer hitch. I start to work at it and glance to the front of the Jeep to see the passenger side of the skid plate hanging down from the frame about 2 inches. All 3 bolts pulled through the rotten frame. I know that this is common and that I'd have to deal with it at some point. After jacking it back up into place and supporting the transmission, I easily pop the driver side 3 bolts out of the frame with a pry bar. This thread will cover the adventures of my repair.

I was gonna say, put the holes in it before welding it on! heh, but then you figured it out.
Rest of frame looks like good metal to weld to. That was a bit of a surprize, huh? Hopefully no others.

It was a surprise to see it hanging there when I went out. Thank god the other side held for me to get home. As far as surprised that it's like this - not really. I know that this is a common issue and I'd have to deal with it at some point, just forced to do it early

I had the same issue on my 2000 TJ. Take a close look at where the rear upper control arms attach to the frame. Mine was equally rotten there. Rest of your frame in the photos looks great so hopefully it's not an issue.

My YJ frame nearly looked like that before I swapped frames. new one wasn't as bad, but I replaced it similarly, and reinforced it further.

I had a very close look at the rear upper control arm brackets this morning while I was under it. They look good.

Some progress this morning. Got the driver side rot cut out and the piece tack welded in. Skid plate fit perfect on the floor jack for fitting: Jacked up into place so that I can mark where the holes are required: Holes marked & pieces trimmed on the inside edge. Ready for drilling: My humble mess in the car port:

Holes drilled & nuts welded on. Going to clean up the skid plate and give it a coat of paint before putting it all back together.

Went out this morning to do the final weld in place of the rail pieces. Got the passenger side up in place and started to weld. Ran out of wire within 5 minutes Playing hockey in B'water at 4:30 so I'll have to swing by CT and pick up a roll.

Ha, that's always the way. Buy two, put a roll in the house for emergency.

Went out before I went to bed last night and painted the other side of the skid plate with rocker guard as well as the frame rails. Got up this morning and finished the job. Completed pics: My humble car port 'cleaned up' again:
