Plotted the point on my Mapsend program, wow, that is in the middle of nowhere. I will plot it on the atlas maps tonight, maybe showing some nearby trails.... Download a map here.... www.accesswave.ca/~spark00/JEEPPICS/stuck.pdf

Hey Big 6, where is that map from? I'm looking for a newer gps with a good base map, any suggestions? We went in across from the villa back towards the field and stuck to logging roads for a ways, on your map see the stillwater to the NW, we crossed the E end of it and came out on the road due north of the stillwater.

That is taken from magellans Mapsend Canada. You can run that on any GPS that Magellan Sells, starting at around $300.

Now that I have christened the, new to me, Cherokee on its first run with the new look of numerous body panel dents and loosing up the rear bumper I am up for it again. I would love to make this a usable trail.
Let's book a time this weekend.

Couldn't bring myself to post yesterday... just too beat. Much thanks go out to Len, Mike, Chris, Leigh, Adam and Dave!! Were quite happy to hear a chain saw and see headlights!
We were quite happy to finally get out of the woods. Maybe someday FAR in the future, we can go back to that trail and check out the section that was behind where you found us. There was still a bunch more trail, and in sunlight, I'm sure it would have been much better.
Christine took a few pics, but just of the regular trail (before turning left at the swamp).
Leigh had a great name for it... Devils Arsehole!

I have one of Kevin's Magellan GPS (Sport Trak). Works like a charm and accurate. The maps you download from Mapsend help me get around city and florida and also hunting. Would recommend Magellan to anyone.

Keep in mind that all J-Class or for that matter most Provincial roads are open to the public. They can shut them down in spring when they are soup. What gets people in trouble is making by passes around tree's and washouts. This often puts you on private lands. The roads vary in width from 5 meters to almost 20 meters wide.
I always go with the 5 meter/16ft rule, or under. That way we don't get over on someone's land and cut. Tree's down we always cut to a useable length, say4- 8 ft and leave road side. If it's a big straight tree we cut it to max length for lumber. In past years we have had land owners think us for not trashing blowdowns. They were able to go in and use the lumber.
I'm just now setting up my AC and plan to try an electric chain saw I've borrowed. Going to make up a 20-30ft 12 guage cord. I tried it here at home and it went through some 12 in. spruce, with no problems. People get real execited when they hear a gas saw running in back of thier land. Not sure how well it will work but I've seen them cut tree's bigger than I tried. I was also very impressed when a member brought along his cordless dewalt recip with a long wood blade. He had 2 batteries and cut all day. It took a few minutes but he cut through a 12-16in dead fall no prob.
Glad to hear there may be a new trail to try up your way. Nice to hear everyone made it back safe and sound.

The place you guys came out on Grand Lake is called Sleepy Cove (no joke), where 2 rivers meet (King and Rocky Brook) there is a 10m waterfalls - not all at once, more like steps adding up to 10m. There also appears to be a road which almost gets to the point where the river meets the lake. Should look for it next trip

All ya'll aren't planning another trip are ya? Bunch'a sicko's! Save yourselves the trouble and just go out into your driveways with a hammer and beat on your jeeps for 10-24 hrs. Just kidding, if its warmer than when we went in be careful along the river bank. It would really suck to have the bank give away with the MRU/MRT 6-10 hrs away. LOL ;D
