So I was going to buy a lift this weekend (only 2.5") and was told to call my insurance company to report that I was adding a lift cause I guess if you don't tell them it's modified and then need to put a claim in they don't need to pay out because you didn't tell them you had a modification. But my insurance (TD Meloche Monnex) informed me that if I modify my vehicle in any way then they will drop me. What do all you other Jeepers do other then just not tell the insurance company? What companies are you with? I only pay like 800 something for my jeep (full coverage) and my apartment insurance. So if I am going to be paying like 1000's of dollars I don't see the point in adding my lift. I'm in a bit of a predicament

I have so many what if scenarios going through my head right now. But you are right a 2.5" lift is nothing major, almost hardly noticeable. Something to think about for sure.

"You have to read the fine print on the contract eh? The ins co has the right to refuse a claim if the vehicle was modded, that affects performance, and they weren't aware. Every ins co is different."
^^^ This is from someone who dealt with ins claims as their job. I just asked them and that was the answer.
Now, would a 2.5" lift and slightly bigger tires on your JK raise any eyebrows if an adjuster looked at it after an accident? Not likely. I doubt they would notice or care but to the letter of the law... you changed the vehicle from stock to something else. Some prick of an adjuster could say that affected your ability to stop like a stock vehicle would, etc.
Some are more Jeep friendly than others and they understand that most Jeeps are going to be lifted, bigger tires or something else at some point, within reason. I know Len has a rep that is Jeep friendly, maybe he will post the contact name...

I just renewed mine and i told them it was modified with a lift and tires and she looked at me like i had 3 heads. She said we've never had this happen before. So she wrote in the mods that i had done and said it was fine and it was in the system now so if something happened it would be covered because i told them about it.And my price didn't change either.I have also been with them for 16 years with no claims.

TD seems to only care if you have full insurance, they weren't concerned with modifications to either my Jeep or Spitfire which only have PL/PD - no pictures or anything required for either vehicle. They asked about modifications to all the cars I've had insured with them that had full coverage and told me I would need to inform them if any modifications were made to those cars.

Yeah its because if you have full coverage and your vehicle gets written off then have to replace the vehicle. And they don't want to pay out more than they need to. That's how they explained it to me anyway.

My insurance company said it was no issue at all to modify, raise, lower, big tires, etc. Allstate in Clayton Park.
