It's time to get a few cross ties in to keep the walls from spreading, before there's snow or high winds on the roof. (edit) Looking at the photos on my office screen (it's lunch break) I think I see cables tying the outside walls together already, is that what I'm seeing? Yeah, you are right on the walls being joined...metal rods with adjustable/ threaded portion to tighten when needed. My plan is to finish the door, get the floor level, then replace the rotten loft that I have torn out. I already have 12' and 18' 6x6 beams that I bought months ago for the new loft. That will tie walls together, then the plan is to tighten up the roof...

This past week took a few hours off work to complete cut a rough opening in the barn to allow the skid steer in to clean it out... Found a guy close to where I live that does work on the weekends and got to work today on cleaning out all the remaining hay and old floor from the barn... All cleaned out... Then backfilled with class A gravel... Will probably put a tamper on it later this week, and then leave it till the spring for concrete..

that looks a helluva lot nicer. a nicely packed dirt floor isn't too bad for working off of either.... better than laying on other things..

Yeah, it would be great to have a concrete floor, but just cant make it work this year. Once I pack it down with a plate tamper it will give me a decent surface for now. I do already have most of the material I am going to use to put a loft back into the barn to replace the old rotten loft I cut out. Was planning on 10' on the height of the new loft thinking this would still allow me space to jack/work on my jeep, plus leave me a second level for storage, but open to any input...

Took a few hour off work and had time to work on a few things including getting backfill done on north wall of the barn... Ran a plate tamper over the floor for a while, filled in some low spots and tamped it again. Left a bit of a gravel ramp for entry/exit until I can do concrete... Then spent some time building a door, hoping to get some time to spend on the rails and casters/hangers so I can get the sliding door hung... Got one coat of paint on in this pic, put another coat of paint on it earlier tonight...

After seeing that Dan updated his barn build recently I figured that I should do the same and post a few pics to update progress on the old barn...
This side door was rotten and getting worse all the time
So I cut out all of the rot and started to rebuild it..
This was a temporary door that I used until I installed another one which I will load a picture of once I can find one..it was a definite upgrade from the other old door that let in a lot of snow and rain.
Installed a sliding barn door on the front entry...
Another shot that shows the old window and old opening up on the right where they used to throw in the hay. Both needed to be ripped out and fixed up...
I'll try to load up more pics as I get time this week to show some additional progress,

Finished the typar across the front and installed a window in the old hay door to allow for more light...
As you can see in the picture the wall has bad lean so I screwed a 2x4 across the wall and drilled a hole and put a long eye bolt through it so I could hook a chain to it from the inside...
Hooked a chain and a come along to the eye bolt inside of the wall and started pulling it in...and once pulled into level added extra 2x4 studs and supports in the corners...
And added some trim to the outside for furring strips to even it out and clean it up until I can do board and batten...
This is the shot of the side door that I showed earlier but with the better door installed...
Ill add some more pics when I get a chance as I am now starting on the loft area.
