is it possible to remove the upper coil buckets without ruining them? I'd like to reuse mine. Scott saved his and reused them .... it's buried in his "cutting up a perfectly good jeep" thread. I think unless you notch the frame for the bucket relocation, it will be higher. Ahhh yes! I do remember seeing that. Thanks!

I think you would have gained some height there , You didn't need to put that flat bar around the coil bucket , the bump stop will hold it centre . I reused my upper coil buckets , easy to get off in one piece when the gas tank is dropped Ahhh yes! I do remember seeing that. Thanks! I frenched my coil buckets into the frame , and used 2.5 in lift coils , gained a 1/2 in of suspension lift

I kept my axle at the same location and measured before and after but I may gain 1/2" of lift in the rear. I should have looked at your thread on this first, but didn't realize that you did that. I did some research about frenching them but wasn't confident enough to do it. Aaron

Here is a shot of the pass side upper coil bucket relocation. It is tight to the rear track bar bracket but there is still plenty of room for the bolt without interferance. Now, I have shocks from my 4" lift still in and I want to have as much droop as possible with the new setup. Right now the shocks are limiting me on droop. If I go to a +6 shock would I need to change the upper mount location so I don't bottom out the shock? What has everyone done for longer e-brake cables? Without the shocks bolted up, the e-brake cables are what limit my flex. I have to jack up the rear axle so I can get my shocks connected. Aaron

time for tech talk with Brandon!!
I think you could do 1 of 2 things with +6 shocks
1) install shocks, lengthen bumpstops limiting up travel. 2)outboard and adjust to the exact up travel you need.

I have my flatbelly skid ready to paint I think, except that I am unsure of the best way to bolt it up.
- Should I use flathead bolts and countersink the heads like I did with the oilpan skid and rockrails?
- Go with a regular hex head bolt but weld on some protection so that the rocks don't tear them up?
Pros/Cons of each? What do you guys think?

I have 8.5" shocks on the front of my xj they will bottom out just as my tire hits the fender and I have 4.5" shocks on the back and I played around with the axle mount till it did the same works pretty good

Where is the option for zip ties and duct tape?? Red Green frowns on you... At the end of the day Aaron, both have their advantages & disadvantages. If you're not planning on climbing on rocks larger than your Jeep, regular bolts will do. It's true that you may deform the head, or shear one off, but at least a little bit of the thread will be left exposed & after you drop the skid, you can weld something to the remaining 1/4". If you go recessed, you'll create a bit of a weak point, but more importantly, if you drag the Jeep over something that gouges the metal, you'll have to drill the head off to expose the threads that have already been shortened by being recessed. I'd be going with standard grade 8 hardware. Easy to install, less fab, and unless you are competing in KOH next year, very likely to stand up to the trails. That is, if you decide to go against Red Green's advice of Duct tape and zip ties

Well I have come to realize that I messed up with my measurements for the rear upper coil mounts and I have to say that Scott was right I did gain some height. I didn't take into account that the jeep had a rake from back to front of almost 1" before I made my coil mounts. Once I had the jeep on the ground with everything bolted up it looked like ass 1.5" rake over all I wasn't happy with what I created and had to cut them off and start all over again. The most frustration thing to do in life is doing something over because you f@ck'd it up. I took a good read thru Scott's build thread and then decided that I needed to man up and cut out the frame as he did to try to level out the ass end some. I took today and got it all completed and it looks like Scott's but his quality of work is a little better. Completed pass side... Completed Drivers Side... Here is how it sits now. It has 1/2" rake from back to front overall. I picked up some 95 XJ rear e-brake cables for a longer length and I will install them this weekend as well. I also ordered a longer rear flex line as well for some added slack. I still need to measure for longer rear shocks with the increaded droop I now have. I also picked up a Creepy front bumper that is a frame cover +2" on each side. I took the time last night to mount it after a few days of painting it. Thanks Jan it looks great. ;D Aaron

Looks like it's sitting right now. Once you get the rest of the weight in the back...tank, skid, tank of gas, tools, hi-lift... it'll change again a small amount.
Nice bumper. The high lift points will be handy... great feature.

This pic is like on the CBC when they are interviewing a victim of crime or a snitch. all blacked out, read it with a garbled voice! ;D ;D The new cut frame looks a lot better than the first rendition anyway. Glad you are happy with the bumper. I see the close spot...very close!

Jan I ened up filling in the holes and moving them back 1/2". This gives me enough room to slide my winch cover over and clear the stinger. I am very pleased with the bumper, thanks! Should I be cocerned about cutting the frame and the heat cycles I put it thru? Should I fish plate the sides of the frame for strength? Aaron
