Does anyone know if the 35 spline dana 80 is the same size as the 35 spline dana 60. they both are 1.5" shafts but the 60 shafts taper down to go into the axle gears. i dont have an 80 here to check.

If they a both 1.5" dia, than I would think they would be the same. But I've never worked on a 80 yet.

rue i was thinking the shaft on the 80 might not taper down like the 60's do.

I had the shafts out but cant remember for sure.Don't think they had a taper. On the Summit website the same part number for 60/70/80 axle shafts.

I've had an 80 apart too, but can't remember for sure either, but I think they stayed big. This was in a 2004 F350 Dually.

Would need spline diameter to answer the neck-down question.

i would think they would be both the same shaft dia too. google says they both have 1.5" shafts. the 60 inner i measured was 1.6" but it was aftermarket.

so if a 60 tapers down to the splines n the 80 stays the same but both have the same size splines the 60s got a bigger shaft? Most of the time a full floating axle is biggest at the splines than tapers down to flange. The 1.5" Yukon axles that r in the back of my buggy stay right around 1.550"dia for the lenght of them, until they get to about 12"from the flange,Then they neck down to roughly( I'm goin to guess..LOL) 1.400".Shitty design if u ask me..The right way to build a shaft is have shaft dia the minor dia of the splines for the lenght of it.This way the load is spread over the lenght of the shaft.
