how much for the chevy ? nice cummins U serious? fire me a pm. I'd like to not part it out. It works good, i just don't want to work on it anymore. some one else might think its a great deal. It doesn't need a shit ton of work, it could be saved. good rubber, decent cab. southern door included, spindle included. $1000 would do it.

Working away at the new to me Ram.
Found stuff in it, which gives me a good timeline of owners.
1st owner - New to 198000kms, it was dealer serviced in Quebec. Excellent records in the glovebox owners manual. No major repairs, lots of oil changes, all at scheduled service intervals, etc.
2nd owner - july09/12 to 285000kms. (the guy I got it from.)He said it has a rebuilt trans, billet converter and shift kit from a reputable shop in NB. No trans records, but found some front end receipts. May2011 - new.....balljoints/draglink/adjusting sleeve/pitman arm/another draglink/tie rod/tie rod/steering stab.
Recall i said it deathwobbled....The wheelbearings are both bad, replacing them today.
So that makes sense, everything else in the front end was rebuilt, but the wheelbearings. The rest is still OK. (tracbar is fine too)
Went to Cummins dealer in Burnside, and got recommended oil, dealer Fleetguard filter and fuel filter.
Went to Dan's Transmission to see D-wayne, and the guys in the shop looking it over good and took it for a test drive. Confirmed a great working trans! Confirmed the billet converter, and there is a shift kit in it, just not one they are familiar with. They can see aftermarket components, but not Transgo, they are used to. Did a filter change while the pan was off, was nice and clean.
That was super news, they said I can chip it later, and the stock motor can't hurt it. AWESOME!
And I got D-wayne to change the oil, made him my bitch. ;D
The trans info was a bit sketchy, since the guy i bought it from was saying 'it has all new front end parts' and me and Scott were looking at 4 year old parts, as confirmed by the receipt I found. So it was great to hear that good news.
Ripped 'er up CVO, and got Matt to find me some unit bearing that didn't cost $440 (dealer) each. Should be in later today.
Then went home and changed the fuel filter. Its not like a gas motor. Big housing on side of the block, change every 5000kms. Drain water, put in new filter, prime and go. It started right up, sometimes it can be hard to start, but I didn't have any trouble.
Today I'll do the diff oils, got synthetic for the back. And the wheelbearings.
edit - Tim Hortons run and grabbed and air filter, mine was dirty. Gonna pull the turbo silencer ring so it sounds louder. No performance change, just louder. ;D
Should be ready for the season after that!

If you don't find a receipt for the lift pump, replace it. Especially if it's the model that is on the side of the filter housing. When they get weak it's hard on the injection pump. And if you add a programmer they are a little more demanding on the fuel system.

I'll look into the lift pump. That supplies fuel to the high pressure pump, eh? Its a lower pressure pump to bring fuel from tank?
Whats with the syn. diff oil comment? What is your experience? The owners manual says use synthetic 75W90 GLP5, do NOT add friction modifier. I picked some up, but didn't do the job yet.
The limited slip is nice and tight, she'll leave two strips.

If it's the Zexel Torsen (No clutch packs, screw type gears) unit, you do not add a modifier. If you are towing I would use the 140 weight. Yes the lift pump feeds the injector pump, injector bump bumps up the rail pressure to 10-15,000psi at the injector.

Its got screw gears for a limited slip. I put in 1L royal purple 75W90, (BA won at Valley Crawl!) and the rest synthetic 75W90. The towing won't be over 6000#, and not that often. I think it will be fine without the heavier oil.
Ted - can you recommend an aftermarket lift pump? I looked quickly, and saw some with filter housings and the like on them, looked interesting.

Just so there is no confusion here. Your factory pump is fine as far as volume goes, you do not need a system like air dog or the like unless you plan on going with a lot of mods, injectors ect. The reason I recommended replacement is the factory one at the amount of KM you have is nearing it's life expectancy. If you do want an aftermarket one anyway, we deal with www.dieselperformance.com/index.php/product/index/36P there are different kits available. You would be fine with the one above.
