Damn pin. Weird that it would just walk out like that. Maybe squeezing it with the vicegrips during the install made it too narrow and it slides out? I guess you could be right and it will have to be done on the bench.

That may have read wrong. The new pin did not drop out , something must have been the contributing factor to make the old pin break

That's true. Now that you are back to work like a real person, that can't help much either.

I had my Pop's , the axle guru , drop over and have a look . We took it for a drive , brought it back and put it up on the hoist , checked the axles , which are fine . The chipped pinion is what is making all the noise , so Now I need a set of D70 4.10 gears
Does anyone know if the D80 and D70 share the same carrier , gears and axle splines ?

I read some where either the 60 and 70 share the same parts or the 70 and 80 do

I read an article in Crawl about installing a d70 carrier in a d60 but you needed a kit for it. Maybe it would be easier going the other way.

There is a lot of info on Randy's ring and pinion on what fits what. When you select a, for example, Dana 70 gear set, it will tell you what applications it will fit.
My first guess would be that Dana 70 and 80 ring gears are different diameters.

Turns out the super D70 gears may not interchangeable. Prices range from $1200-$1400 But if they are , is cheap , won't know til they get here if they will fit or not

I have been pretty busy , and don't have very many pics I got a set of new 4.10 gears , turns out that reg D70 gears fit Thanks CVO !! . Also picked up a LSD for it , and installed both ( no pics of this stuff ) The LSD centre section actually fits a bit different , we had to cut 5/8 in off the driver side axle splines to get it to fit right . Its all back together and drives great , both rear tires now peel !! A couple pics of the van Steve'O over installing the stereo Gotta get the 7 way plug installed as well as the brake controller Picked up a trailer needs a bit of work and a paint job Slide in ramps I put the boy to work with the mini grinder / wire wheel I am gonna take the side rails off , but leave it there on the front and replace the fenders . I also picked up 4 new tires and rims for it . It needs to be rewired with some side marker lights added Van and trailer go for safety inspection on Tues
