Thinning is easy man... this isn't rocket science and I doubt you're trying to get a glossy finish you can shave your face with. I've had good success with thinning directly in the reservoir for the gun too - add a bunch of paint, add some thinner, stir - spray. I clamp the gun in the vice while setting it up. When you're done run thinner through the gun to clean it (take it all apart and clean it too) and then I just leave thinner in the reservoir and hang it in the garage. If I was painting a car I'd put in a lot more effort but painting a trailer it a fair bit less complex

yeeeeeeah I got tired of the brush method, was too lazy to go get thinner. I had 3 cans of aerosol rust check rust paint kicking around and went to town. Needs a couple more coats but it's good enough for now. Here's some pics. I expected the wiring to be more of a nightmare, it took me all of 10 minutes once the lights were mounted. I even had lost the instructions that came with the kit. Left over transfercase drop made for some beefy light mounts. 3500lbs tie downs for the bike. fully welded, inside and out. Looking forward to getting in some track days when time permits! Safety chains, used 1 1/4 muffler clamps. tightened on the nut, cut the bolt flush and welded all around. There she sits. Not complete, but complete enough for inspection or so i thought..... I took it over this morning to a local guy, pretty small operation and has inspected my bike a couple times. He always seemed pretty lax when it came to inspections. I took the 15/16 inch rim combo off as one was a dummy spare and borrowed apesteguys 8 inch tires and rims thinking this may give me a better chance at getting a sticker as I am putting on different tires when I come across a set. I just wanted to get it all legal before I ran out of vacation. Everything went well up until he looked at my wheel studs. For some reason the 8" rims have a thick centre but I slammed them on anyway thinking he would over look it. They threaded on about 1/2 way, which was fine to get me there and back. He hummed and hawed but in the end wouldn't pass it, I don't blame him it I was a little nervous taking it over. It was only temporary but you live and you learn. He said good try and gave me a pat on the back. He also let one fly bending over to check the tires. I pretended like it didn't happen.

Looks good.
One thing - The saftey chain mount should not pass inspection. You need something stronger than the chain, those u-bolts are not. You can probably weld a link to the frame, or instead of relying on welding, pass a bolt thru a chain-link, thru the frame.
In addition to the low-grade steel, the orientation is such that the load will work to pop the welds off. It would have been better to put the u-bolt up the side of the frame, and weld longer beads vertically.

Safety chains are not allowed to be welded on , they must be bolted

I was wondering about this too but kept my mouth shut.... I'd certainly change the chains man - mine have saved me a couple times.

I had a lot of conflicting info when I was researching the safety chain bit. So I looked at a trailer in a parking lot and mimicked what I saw. I did buy a 4" grade 8 bolt when I got my ubolts bent in case I was in fact wrong. If the tongue is like the rest of this trailer it's going to take 6 drill bits and 4 hours to get through it. Thanks for the heads up!

Is this the proper course of action to register a brand new unserialized utility trailer?
1)Go to DMV and obtain serial number and plate 2)have Police officer sign off 3)get inspection

Nope, the first order is correct. The police officer just needs to make sure that the proper serial number is attached on the trailer in the proper location. That is all they wanted to see on mine. After that I was able to go to get it inspected.

I called the RCMP and they had a cruiser drop by that was in the area. They came pulling down our sub-division road way too fast and our older neighbor put it to the cop lol. Sprayed rocks all over their lawn and the dust cloud was huge when he passed 2 kids on bicycles.
See what they say when you call them.

When I registered my trailer I took it down to the station in Stewiacke, they were willing to drop out as well (I just wanted it done sooner than later)
