Just thought I'd start a discussion about how trails are selected and filled and maybe get a couple problems hashed out I was going to mention before Jam anyway. I didn't have and don't have a problem with adding a couple of capable people to any trail, they can usually take care of themselves and usually help out anyway, almost like having extra guides along. What bothered me is trails being closed before people got there; I missed one trail I would have like to have done but picked another, no biggee cause I've done them all. What if I was from NB or QC and came all that distance to find out the trails I woudl have to liked to have done were filled by locals who aren't even there ?
I don't know the answer but pre-booking happens and it isn't right.

If you can't get to trail sign-up before it closes and everyone else signed up, its your problem. We had to wait for sign-up sheet to open, to get our group in. There was no pre-booking, but we did know what we wanted. Possible cure - announce trails WAY earlier in season, and sign up online. This would give an indication of interest in trails, and allow plans to be made to split groups or run certain trails both days, and maybe less popular trails only one day. Advance information for planning. Then the last minute sign-up people could be accomodated by 'saving' slots on popular trails for the late travellers. I'm still happy to have meal delete, so I'll shut up now.

Well "it's a keeper" perhaps your thoughts will be taken into consideration also may have been a good idea to express your view point and opinion about this "trail" issue after last years Jam, which could have given the committee more of a chance to discuss and review any tentative problems and/or concerns. If we pick a time to do trail selection, then that's what we do. We can't please everyone. But I will say that I stood by the table last year when trails were being signed up for, most of the participants did it for themselves from what I could see. First come first serve. it's suppose to be a fun weekend afterall!! See ya's all there!!

Trail List!! Johnsons Settlement/BeaverPond Patriots Alley (NEW) CRUSHER Tias Quarry/ participants choice . options TBA Just trying to get an idea of trail levels here..... Hard---Crusher, Quarry Med-- Tia's Easy-- Johnson Settlement/Beaverpond So where does Patriots alley stack up? Easy to Medium? I'm not trying to cause crap or be critical or anything, just some observations. Doesn't appear to be a lot of Mid level trails? Which is where I would think the largest percentage of Jam goers would fit. I seem to remember a fair amount of people mentioning to me last year that the trails were either way to easy or way too hard. Perhaps the Participants choice should be something in the middle of the pack. Out of curiosity it'd be nice to know what percentage of Jam goers fit into each of these categories. That'd make it a lot easier to custom tailor the trail selection process to fit the cross section of drivers. I personally don't go to Jam for the hard wheeling (i'm busy enough fixing stuff that I don't need to be fixing my own! haha).
