Hey guys, Well it looks like the girls have finally decided on their horse trailer, which means it's up to me to figure out how to attach it to the truck. Because of where my axle is located in relation to the back of the deck I'm going to have to run an extension on the trailer to let it clear. This is being tossed in with the trailer. I was hoping to just cut a hole in my deck to house the ball however, with the extension bit, I'd have to recess an area for everything to pivot. An easier sounding solution I think is to put in a ball which can either flip over out of the way or... well that's about all I can think of. Princess Auto has these: www.princessauto.com/pal/en/Specialty/Retractable-Gooseneck-Truck-Bed-Ball-Mount/4200125.pBut I'm wondering about the quality of them.. Anyone have any experience with these?

It's a brand name, so quality is probably good. It doesn't look like it ties into the frame though, or is there more to it I'm not seeing?

That's another thing. Do I have to tie directly to the frame? or can I tie to the structural steel that is the flat deck which is attached to the frame? The flat deck is heavier gauge material than the frame. If not... I'm going to need this about 6" off the frame... is there any kind of guidelines anywhere to tell me what I can and can't do?

I have a few friends with that set up. They all have frame tie ins. It seams as you are thinking about bolting it to your flat deck. Is the flat deck solid with no rubber mounts? Even if it has no mounts i would tie it to the frame. They have good luck with there set up and tow great.

my flatdeck is bolted solid to the frame, no rubber mounts. The guy where we're buying the trailer from installs hitches and said he would just attach it to the flatdeck as well but I'm open to other opinions.

If your deck is made of solid enough material, it will be fine.

johnmite has had a few other cryptic posts as well, either he's a linguist or ahead of his time. No offence meant to him, they're just a little hard to understand. Oh his profile says he's from Australia... Now I look like an ignoramus

Oh his profile says he's from Australia... Now I look like an ignoramus From Australia but also goes to Metals R Us several times a week...their prices must be very good to justify that. I'm thinking he's a very sophisticated bot and is being looked into.

That's what I thought. The written English is too poor.

It was like reading an Engrish translation from Chinese, done bad.

I ordered a mount from Parts for Trucks which allows the ball to fold down into the deck. Sorry for being on topic, I keep coming back to the thread looking for input
