As you guy know I sold another buggy. Anyhow when I sold it , I took another project in on trade. Goin a totally different route is time around. I'm going away from the heavy 1 ton stuff and back to the Toyota world. Goin to see how light I can build this one, aiming for under 2500lbs. I would like to get it in the 2000lbs range, but that might be pushin it. This buggy is goin to be bare bones, nothing on it that it doesn't need to crawl over rocks. Engine, tranny, tcase are goin to be 1.6 VW turbo diesel,Toyota std tranny, 4 or 5 spd( I've got both)Trail gear doubler 2.28:1,T case has 4.7:1 Trail gear crawler kit in it. It's been a long time since if wheeled a std tranny, should be interesting LOL. Building a pair of toy steer axles, been workin on these a bit on my lunch hours. Housings have been sand blasted, striped of all the factory mounts and brackets. I've added a top and back truss to these housings. Had a couple of the trail gear diff armor kits, so I worked them into the trusses. Ended up buying my old 37" Krawlers back, picked up a cheap steel wheel to mount them on. Not sure what I'm goin to do for bean locks right now. Want something light. This is goin to be a long drawin out build, have a lot to do around the house right at the moment, but hopin to have it up and runnin for next season. Not sure I can go another year without wheelin. Here's the other reason I don't have much spare time Little Gracie Violet Armstrong, born Aug. 11th. The next generation of wheelers!!!!! If this tread is all messed up and the pics don't show up, I'm tryin to do it on my phone, Rue

Thanks for the old pics. Wonder what the trails would be like if I had of kept that buggy? That buggy with the rear steer and 39s was pretty much point and shoot. Think that buggy weighted 2350lbs without the rear steer axle. I'm pretty sure I can make this one lighter.
Not sure why Creepy is laughing about my 37s , maybe he's thinkin how he's goin to be laughing as I drive away from him. LOL

The 37's are going to be really entertaining is all I meant! Radical departure from bigger is better.

Love the diesel plan. As for light beadlocks, have you (or has any wheeler?) considered taking a page from drag racing and using screws? I don't know how well it would translate to offroad if at all, but it certainly would be lighter than traditional beadlocks. With a buggy there's no concern of being street legal and drag racers put crazy amounts of power down using them.

With a buggy there's no concern of being street legal and drag racers put crazy amounts of power down using them. I've used the screws before, they don't work that great in our world. They just pull out and break off. The drag racers use them to keep the rim from spinning inside the tire. I'll probably just get Creepy to cut me out some narrow rings out of 3/16. I could go with the inner air locks, but they are pricey!!
