Well after spending half an hour getting the RWD truck and horse trailer out of the ice and on to the driveway (with help of a tractor and Jeep Liberty both) we loaded the horses and headed out - only to get stuck going up a hill at the arena where the girls were going to ride: (Things were going south when were were sliding backwards and the trailer took a bit of a dive for the ditch) We were able to get out with a tug from a tractor and some sand but a set of tire chains would have made life a hell of a lot easier. Canadian Tire carries chains for light trucks but where might I look for heavier ones? Parts for Trucks is an obvious choice and I'll look in the morning but I'm looking for other suggestions (or someone who has a set out in the barn they've been unable to bring themselves to throw out because someone, somewhere, some day might want them - not that we have any members on the forum like that.... )

Could they be made on the plasma table? If they are just flat shapes I could bang off as many as someone wanted for fairly cheap.

most home hardware stores should have the side chain ends, along with quick links, cold shut links, and lap repair links, and chain. Easy enough to build by yourself. We build and repair(a lot!!) for one of our forklifts here.

not sure where you would find them but there are pliers which make assembling and repairing them a lot easier as well - pricey if I remember right though

When a set of chains is $100... hard to know if it's worth making them.
I have a bunch of cross chains which I've been using for my tractor chains - I've been heating the end links and bending them though.
I don't have enough to make my own tire chains, this isn't to say if Jan makes up some of the brackets and we could find bulk chain cheap enough it might be worth it.
