Thinking of building a car hauler over the summer and I have a few questions. What is the maximum width I'm aloud, outside fender to outside fender? Are you still aloud to use mobile home axles? I had a set given to me and if I can use them I would like to.

I think I read the mobile home axles have weird wheel bolt pattern, and common brake kits don't bolt on either.
Could be wrong, it just rings a bell.

Thinking of building a car hauler over the summer and I have a few questions. What is the maximum width I'm aloud, outside fender to outside fender? Are you still aloud to use mobile home axles? I had a set given to me and if I can use them I would like to. Info here www.novascotia.ca/snsmr/rmv/inspection/inspection_manual.pdfI have mobile home axles on my trailer. HOWEVER I got rid of those stupid bud wheels and hubs!! Mine are 6000 lb axles and they use a standard size spindle. You can buy a new standard bolt pattern hub off the shelf at PFT that will bold right on and you can use regular 5 or 6 bolt rims. Also MH axles brakes are junk so by switching to standard hubs you can buy loaded backing plates (brakes) cheaper than buying MH brake components. Also off the shelf at PFT and princess auto. The one thing to watch for on mobile home axles is because they are cheaply made the backing plate may be welded directly to the axle tube. Requires mods to accept new brakes. If you are fortunate the axle may have a bolt on backing plate in which case the new brakes "should" bolt right on.
