I just picked up a 1998 Vortec for my buggy to replace the TBI. It comes with the under hood harness, computer etc. But no OBD plug and under dash wiring. Does anyone know what all wiring it needs to get running. Do I truly need the in cab harness as well? I plan on using my TH350 not the computer controlled trans but would the computer still need a signal from the trans?
So many questions! I hate computer stuff.....

why not a good carb set up on the Vortec From what I've read the cost of the right intake, carb etc is quite a bit more than I am spending in the engine. And I'm cheap! LOL

I can also do your wiring if you like rico . I am getting into doing all these stand alones Well now! I will be in touch!! I would prefer to set up a stand alone system less wiring. Also since I am ging to use my TH350 I think I have to do computer work to eliminate the sub routine for the computer controlled trans. Thanks.

For an electronic trans harness that is not being used, the engine will not turn over. It need to see a park or neutral signal. In the trans plug there is a larger red wire that needs to be hooked up to the blue wire. Maybe it's not blue, it's been a few years since I did that year swap.

That's why the computer has to be reprogrammed as a stand alone system. I paid 250 bucks for a 1998 5.0 Vortec complete with harness and computer etc. According to online my 1989 305 TBI was rated at a Earth Shaking 130 HP!! The 305 Vortec is rated at 235 HP. I had planned on putting in a TBI 350 but as it turns out the vortec has about the same torque, horsepower rating AND it was cheaper than the 350! So there you have it!
