You'd be surprised at what 100 years can do to cover ruins over here in Nova Scotia. I and several friends have been looking around at old areas, digging and so on. I figure that it takes about 30 years for the growth to hit, another 20 for most of the wood to start to decay. In 50 more years most of any structure is on the ground or in the ground.
Doesn't take much to misinterpret structures that were placed 500+ years ago with what is used today, especially if people claim it's something else.
