Hi all,I'm looking at the 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2 door, which has a 2000lb towing capacity. We have a 8' pop up tent trailer that has a plate that has GVWR/PNBV, the weight is 1032-kg/2275-lbs. Is the 2275 lbs the weight of the trailer, or the total loaded that it can't exceed? Single axle camper. Thanks for any help.

It means the total trailer weight can't be more than 2275#, including your cargo and fluids.
See if there is a dry weight or curb weight listed, its prob right around 2000#.
I'd run it.

Hi Jan, thanks for moving the post. I can't find a dry weight anywhere on the tag, but have some info from their website, Specification Description Length 17'0" Width 7'1" Interior Height 1'0" Hitch Weight 178 lbs Gross Weight 2,278 lbs Cargo Weight 810 lbs Dry Weight 1,353 lbs Fresh Water Capacity 10 gals Furnace BTU 17,000 Sleeps 6 Tire Size 12. So I guess the dry weight is 1,353 lbs, and that leaves 647 lbs to go to the 2000lb max the 2 door Wrangler will haul. I like you thought there's no way that trailer is almost 2300 lbs. I know stuff adds up quick when loading up. Thx for the help. PS buggy looks great.

Um, maybe I am the only one who noticed. You said it has "1032-kg/2275-lbs" on it. They are the same. One is KG, the other, lbs. Meaning if your Jeep has a 2000lb tow capacity, it's over by 275lbs. Being the plate you found quickly and such, I'd be betting that is the overall weight of it, as it sits.
Your Jeep, after all. I'd make sure it's got a tranny cooler, if auto, and give it a shot. You should be able to feel pretty quickly if the Jeep is struggling too much.
I'm curious as to where the Gross Weight number comes from. My understanding of gross weight is "That's ALL the stuff!!" meaning it would include all the interior bits, while the Dry Weight might be the empty shell? God forbid anyone ever put a tag that is simple to decipher and makes sense to those without engineering degrees.

Yes, we are aware the weight rating are given in imperial and metric. lol
GVWR is the max the vehicle can carry. It does not change. Gross weight is weight of vehicle, variable with cargo and humanoids. dry weight is no cargo/water/passengers, etc.
What Bhamm can do, since the camper dry weighs 1353#, is not add more than the remainder 647# to get to 2000#, and he will be within the tow rating of the Jeep.
The camper can still carry more, up to its GVWR, but would need a bigger truck with higher tow rating.

I think we got er, I have to call the dealer and see if the maximun payload of 1000lbs in the Jeep, is on top of the 2000 lbs towing capacity. I really don't want to go to the 4 door the departure angle isn't great, it seems like a station wagon to me.

towing capacity wouldn't affect the payload rating except for the hitch weight of 178lbs which would be deducted from the payload - fun eh ?
