cool, I had an '81 bought new and sold it 12 years later - had already replaced half the frame, inner fenders and floor and back quarter panels - flipped it and broke the hardtop - it was an auto as well and ran perfectly to 250,000km

Some more plow pics. Its a Fisher SpeedCast model G. removed a bunch of crappy wiring this is not the worst CJ around......its not 'that' bad. The rear swing-out is home-made and I actually like it and think its well done. Every single thing works. The turn signals, the wipers, the washers, heater, defrost, all lights, starts w key, charges, idles, etc. The D300 shifts nice. Nice dash, all factory and not cut up. Smoker's package lol ashtray, lighter, and extra glovebox thing that happens to fit an Iphone perfectly. AMC was thinking ahead! Wanna play?

Yup it is the dealer service manual.... There might be some differences between 81 and 85, but it references the numbers you listed. It also has cool flow charts. Tons of cool bits of info on everything . Thx for the borrow, this thing is awesome!!!! the fluid flow charts are super helpful, since I think the trans just has a stuck reverse valve. Nothing I found on the internet comes close to the info packed into the manual. Man, I would have liked being a mechanic in the 60's and 70's. If you can read and apply, you'd be like a God. lol

$1200 was asking, I got it for $1000 w no battery. Muhhahaha!
Got the skid off last nite without breaking anything off in the frame. That's how good the frame is. Dropped trans pan and found what I think is the pump thrust washer in 3 chunks. Fluid is super nice and clean, not burned at all.
Pulled the valve body and called 'er quits. Need a fresh mind to tear into that thing.

But the potential is there to put it on the road with some floor work and body mounts under the floor. Like said, frame is great, nothing required. I did not expect it was in this good of shape, so I didn't even consider it being able to be put on the road until it was home a few days. I'm not going to do anything to it that will make it unable to be put on the road.

I have an Accent already, thx.
What I'd really like is a mysterious tote full of Jeep parts that I don't really need, about a 50 minute drive from my place so it wastes a lot of my fuel.
But alas, I've looked high and low, and cannot find one.

I was picking at the CJ for the last few days. With the trans pan dropped, it was time to do some tests and decide to pull the transmission or not. - adjusted the front band, it was OK. Drove fine in forward gears and actuates with air pressure on its port. - adjusted the rear band, it was a bit out of adjustment. It actuates with air. Can't see the drum, don't know if its scored, or if there is any friction material left on the band. This component produces reverse gear. (which wasn't working) - tentatively identified the broken thing in the trans pan as the oil pump thrust bearing. Need to test line pressure. Reverse uses the highest pressure, so if the pump is producing low pressure, the first thing to go is reverse. so there's two strikes against reverse working that have been found. - fluid nice and clean, no filings in pan. (aside from broken thrust bearing ring, all pieces accounted for) - removed valve body, checked line pressure and kickdown lever adjustments, they were OK. It all looked fine. - accumulator piston is missing the spring - I looked for it for 3 hours all over my shop. I coulda swore it never fell out when I removed the valve body. I sifted thru my garbage, I looked under every single thing on the floor, i swept, I sifted the floor sweepings. I went and got a coffee, came back, and did it all over again. No spring anywhere. Its the size of a valve spring, not some little tiny thing, should not be hard to find if it dropped. Gave up, went to bed. Found on internetz next day that Mopar drag race guys remove the accumulator spring from TF727's to quicken the shifts between gears. TF999 and TF727 are very very similar. Now, recall the PO was a mechanic....he must have taken that spring out of there. Got me! He took it out for crisp plow shifts from F to R. No waiting for gear to engage. Which just might be hard on that reverse band that is probably worn out. - Got the gear selector and kickdown linkage working nice - added drain plug to trans pan, so it can be pulled without dropping skid from now on. - removed the rotten old cooler lines and adapters from the trans, and picked up some new adapters today for 3/8" cooler lines. there is a decent sized cooler in front of the rad. - started removing tons of stupid wires that do stupid things to the computer controlled carb. Full Nutter by-pass coming up next few days, removing computer. - good link for doing the Nutter work. This shows all the crap you can get rid of. home.sprynet.com/~dale02/home.htm

When putting a shift kit in a Dodge trans, they always tell you to remove the accumulator spring, so it may have a kit in it.
