Phil Tear $13 put a drain in the pan, no trans fluid shower next time, and can change fluid without dropping the skid. Get them in PA hydraulic section $7 got the line pressure and shifter area cleaned up. OMG this thing is greasy. T-shirt a day in the garbage. Can't touch it without a pawful of grease all over you. I have grease in my armpits and across my back after working on it. To do anything, you have to clean it first. But not complaining - just saying! It wouldn't have a frame if it wasn't slathered in grease. Removed the cooler fittings, they were oddball size for getting hydraulic line parts to fit, so I just got rid of them for common cheaper stuff. old and new cooler line setup. The new fitting don't need hose clmaps, they are a nice and clean setup. Very easy to install in the tight confines behind the skid and around the shifter doo-dads. computer was decapitated. removed all the computer stuff, and did the Nutter by-pass, now the timing is controlled by ECM same as an earlier CJ, and the carb solenoids for air mixture are deactivated and I'm running it on the manual air bleeds. (like older CJ) Added an ignition 'power bar' to tidy wiring and have easy access to 12V for various things. Some of these used to get powered by the computer, so there was no circuit to tie into. fairly tidy, easy to trouble-shoot. Note the new dist, alt, and fuel pump...it came that way. What a deal! firewall is practically bare now, nice and tidy!

Looking good... seems oddly dry for the plastic valve cover. Any oil in it?! lol

Fresh oil change in 2010! Yeah, its sealed and doesn't leak. Its not the type with 2 hold-downs in center of top, which were the worst ones to leak. Buddy has it all gooped up pretty good.

general engine overview. I haven't tidied the plow hyd. and heater hoses yet. It wouldn't pick up fuel after replacing lines. It had just been running off a pop bottle till now. Couldn't figure it out, so thought I had to go into the tank, and check the pickup lines for vacuum leak (not allowing pump to prime) So - drop the tank? GROSSSSS! Its sooo gross up under there. Hhmm, yeah, fawk it, I'm cutting a hole in the floor. Also - the fuel gauge didn't work so I put $10 in it when I got it, and another $20 when it wouldn't start. Then gas came out the fill neck and vents so I thought it was airlocked. Removed the vents and they are dripping gas. WTF? OK, that might explain the venting and gas coming out the filler. Its full. Never overlook the simplest answer!!!!!! pickup is Ok, very good shape actually. Uh-oh - the float is cracked. It was full of gas, so gauge always sat on E. I JB-weldered the cracks and let dry overnight. Going to try it out, if not, get a new float. So there was lots of gas and the pickup lines are fine. But no fuel at pump. Looking upstream, found this at new steel line to old rubber pump inlet line. Totally blocked with what looks like wire insulation. Maybe off the pickup wiring? I dunno. Blew out the lines, Re-attached the old pump rubber line to the new steel, and tried it again. Still no gas at the pump. Removed the old rubber pump intake line from the new steel supply line again, and pull another of of those plugs out. WTF? It was clear a second ago? Found the old rubber line was rotten on the inside, and pushing the new steel line into it was making a plug of rotten line. Jumpin Jesus on a pogo stick! Some glad I didn't drop the tank!!!!! So replaced that 12" of rotten line, the only original stuff that was left, and it started right up. It's running, today I hope to get it off jackstands and see if reverse is cured.....if not, then pulling the trans.

Poo-berries. Don't get too excited. Got the skid back on, timed engine and adjusted carb. Running half decent, probably fine like that. Transmission still has no reverse.

Damn, sorry to hear that. Although that major mess of wires you got to remove must have been akin to peeling the plastic off a new electronic device.

I think all the ones I have are supposed to work, some would slip a bit, but had all gears. You are welcome to have one.
