Looking for a rear axle with limited slip out of an older Volvo, I think around 1992 and down 240's and 740's, might be other models as well. These were all 27 spline axles. Before someone deletes this as non-jeep, , the older volvo's had dana 30's in the rear, and some of them had limited slips. A lot of them were 3.73 and up and these carriers will fit in a front dana 30 in a jeep, and the gears will fit in a low pinion front. Common ratios were 3.31, 3.73, 3.91 and 4.10. Anyone know of any scrapped volvo's around, any year?

Aren't all the Volvo's from that era scrapped? They probably are. I am just hoping to find a few bits and pieces here or there.

I talked to a buddy of mine who is a Volvo nerd of that era, he had the following to say:
tell the guy that there were verrrrry little made, and almost non in North America. It was mainly just the "group A" cars that got the LSDs and those were special order. How ever if he looks up trutrac (I think that's how it's spelt) and look for Volvo they have LSDs for Around the 400$ mark
Good luck!

Thanks Dewie. I was hoping they were more common. Oh Well. Some of the volvo forums talk about swapping them into other volvos, so I thought there might be some around. Another dead end.

More info!
hey, i was just thinking. there was a diff made for volvos called a G80. it was a locking diff, but had weights inside that only allowed it to lock up below 25mph. but there are mods to increase that. googling "G80 turbobricks" might yield some info. they weren't very tough though

Did a search, and I think those were the old 'gov-lock's similar to what GM had in their vehicles. They can be harsh engaging, like some lockers, and that is what I was trying to avoid in the front axle. I did not realize they were disabled above 20 or 25 mph. Learn something new every day. This video does a good job of explaining how they work. linkBut, beggars can't be choosers, and if I found one, I would see if I could use it.
