Anyone know roughly what a complete Cherokee might be worth as scrap? Also, who buys/picks up big scrap?

Anyone know roughly what a complete Cherokee might be worth as scrap? Also, who buys/picks up big scrap? All the tow companies take scrap vehicles. kijiji is littered with ads. They get vehicle for price of the tow is how they want to work it. Maybe if you had something worth a lot of good parts at a junkyard to them, but an old XJ isn't going to be one of those vehicles. You will not get any money at all from a tow company, for that rig. They will remove it for free. As posted above, the value of the scrap weight is below the value of the tow. The tow guys hope to sit on the parts, and make some money back that way. Basically go around collecting free inventory for their scrapyards. You will NEVER make money from a tow outfit or scrapyard! lol

Well I have certainly been turned off the Jeeper life. This is my 2 in 1, first and last Jeep, I think. It is incredibly annoying to know there's a lot of $ in parts for anyone running an XJ and no call for them now. Hell, the nose skid, PS pump and rad cost me more than $100 a little over a year ago. Anyone serious about taking it and at least giving me a few bucks, can PM me. I need it gone and I know there's a guy from the Sack Vegas area who pays $100 per hulk, as of October, anyway. I'd prefer the parts be used by someone who enjoys them....

If you have some parts on the Jeep that you feel are worth something, and have the space to keep them for a bit, I would remove them. You could scrap the rest and sell off those parts. James

Well, if someone was running a Cherokee with stock running gear, everything from the flywheel back on the drivetrain worked like a top. Maybe everyone running these has the parts, or they're in the same spot as I with no place to store a pile of parts until someone needs them.
So far as the Ford/Dodge, Chev situation, repairing a proper frame was something I knew a couple folks might tackle. the unibody, however, ran outside the realm of what I was able to find anyone willing to work on. Nonetheless, once the gravel I got is spread, I'll be seeing it gone, one way or the other. Between Kijiji and FB posts, I have had lots of folks claiming interest, and no follow up. My main turn off was seeing it just sit and rot, when it had the potential to be a great rig for some fabricator. Or, as I say, a boatload of parts for anyone running one with some space.

My main turn off was seeing it just sit and rot, when it had the potential to be a great rig for some fabricator. You had an offer from a fabricator earlier in this thread. $100. Bill The offers are from the fabricator who said he would not do the welding work required, when I was getting the work done to the heap. I spent the first $500 on required repairs to not get stuck in the woods from a breakage, while looking for someone who would help/do the work for a reasonable price. I did not know, going in, that I would be unable to find someone to work on it (frame welding) until I was in too deep. Again, overestimating the potential for getting a Jeep on the road. Scott, I have not replied yet because it seems every time it comes up, I have a couple "interested" parties. I had hoped to not lose my shirt on it, but that's a pipe dream. I will PM you my telephone number, if you're still interested in picking up your parts, with the remainder of the jeep bolted to them. A learning experience, if nothing else. I'll be having my mechanic closely check any other toys I look at, to prevent ending up in the same spot.

I have been in your spot Falwith, it sucks when it happens but it does happen. I made a mistake and paid for it. Now I make sure every vehicle I buy gets checked by trusted mechanics.
