So what's the deal?? I understand they are coming out with a Diesel Libby...or may have already and just not here yet... is that so??? Rhonda and I have been shopping for a new car(looking for something a lil' more economical than the TJ and ZJ)...been lookin' at the Mazda 3's...nice lil' car, great price! and lotsa snap! Then went to the Ford dealer to try out the 2005 Mustangs with the V8...OMG!!! the style of the end of the 60's era is VERY hot!...POWER?  it's got the snap, crackle and pop! BUT...so much for fuel economy  So Rhonda is pretty well sold on the new 'Stang...then somehow the diesel KJ came to mind last nite....gotta be easy on the pocket book as far as fuel goes...rite?? I imagine the price tag on her is prolly outragious?? anyone?? so anyhow, I need to find out a lil' more as Rhonda seems to be kool with the thought of another Jeep...keep it in the family...Jeep family that is!! Think I remember John saying the deisels would only be available in the "Limited" end of the Liberty spectrum. So, you'll want to check out their prices, and it will probably be around there.
As for availability, he tested one a couple months ago, so they're definitely coming soon.

Latest word here is about two months and we "may" have one. If you want ability and fuel economy go with a Liberty. The 5spd gives great economy as compared to the auto. We have sold a couple and folks comment on the fuel eco. being better than they had expected. BTW a diesel KJ will on the high 30s range. At least in the initial run. Higher end ones are first. May I suggest a 6spd Un-limited? I'd go w/Rubi pkg. myself.

Rite on Johnnie...the Libby should be quite the Jeep!! as fer the unlimited...my wife actually mentioned that the other day with the Rubi pkg. of course...but that would be a whole new plan....trade in the 2003 TJ I just purchased in January of this year and go that route... but that is my toy!!! she wants something that I won't take over Jeff |

Jeff as far as i know the diesel Liberty should be available before spring.
For your purposes it would be an ideal rig.
Scads of low end torque and a decent top speed with great milage to boot.
It truely is a sweet ride

All 2005 Jeeps (TJ, RUBI, UNLIMITEDS) are coming 6 speed manuals, even the 4 Cyl SE's.....the only time i would have hit 6th gear in my 4 banger would have been down a mountain side of ice LOL

The gears are actually spaced closer together in the low gears. As with the Ram 5spd v.s 6spd. The space between 2nd and 3rd and 4th is divided into 3 spaces instead of 2. The final "over"drive is something close to .73 with a 6pd and .75 in a 5spd. It gives the vehicle the ability to not lose momentum between shifts. The jump to the next higher gear is not as great. Therefore when spinning those big tires in the mud less momentum will be lost from clutch/shift. Does this make sense? Clear as mud right?

think i understand what you are saying, more or less they are geared lower, meaning 6th is about the same as 5th and your essentially getting an extra lower gear...
