Hey Dave...less than a month before we get started on trail clearing... I'd still like to get out to B'water for coffee and a lil' trail ridin' before then or we're gonna have to wait till a couple weeks after the Jam.. think ya can find us a trail out there to run and we'll set up/make a trip out some Sat or Sunday in April

hey jeff how's it hangin (your fender that is)!! i just got my heep back from surgery!! i have a new clutch - slave cylinder and all that jazz. unfortunatley we got a faulty slave cylinder and the job had to be done twice. as for april i hope to put a run together on trail called the old annapolis road . it apparently runs from new germany thru to springfield. this is used by both 4 wheelers and a local 4x4 club. it was attempted on good friday but they had to turn everyone around becuase the snow was to deep (full size trucks and imported gear) one of the guys i work with has been thru and i am hopin he will guide for us. i am trying for the 16 th -- i am away next weekend for a week and then off to pick up my daughter the last week of april hope we can get it together for then -- let know what ya think??

Dave, thats part of the old stagecoach route. I've driven around that area a lot! The road begins just past Zwickers Lake here in the Valley and runs past Curl Hole Dam, past the fire tower and hits Cherry Field. We'll hit the old part of the highway before the fire tower.
It was a shame they fixed up the old road as good as they have. It used to be a logs by the Fire Tower. That part was called the Annapolis to Liverpool road.
They used to March trrops down from Halifax at the Citial straight through to Annapolis Royal. If troops were needed on the South Shore they broke off in East Dalhousie and followed the route I just discribed.
Think of the distance and emagine doing it in 2 days on a forced march! Thats over 120 miles!!
There are ton's of side roads to explore around there and it will be a fun run in the spring. I'm looking forward to hooking up with you.
I have an old journal of my families discribing the route.

I've always wondered where that road when when I drove by on the way to Bear River. It really peaked my interest after I was up in the Bowater roads near Tantallon and they have a hiking trail called "The Old Annapolis" road, I wonder if it is part of the original trail system?

Yep thats the one! I have an old topo with most of it shown. In the mapping office they have some great old maps showing the traveled route. On the old road out to Liverpool there is part of a foundation from the old stage coach stop. Part of it was still standing when I was a boy. It used to take us 1 very long day to get in the wildcat brook. 25 years ago when I returned home it had become a main road That sucked bigtime. The fishing was awsome when you had to walk in. Now people can drive a car in there.

Yep thats the one. There are several cottages at our end around the dam site. There used to be an old hunting lodge off the mollys, but that burned down years ago.

Sounds like it would make a good Anniversary Run for us, and that would be the best weekend for it too.

It may have some washouts but has always been just fireroad stuff. It's a great run for a sunday when you only want to putter along and stop for pictures. Now if we want to explore then there are several older roads in the area. With it being muddy and maybe some snow that will be fine for a run. It's summer that finds it rathers lame and long. I'm working on one down by the old Bloody Creek site. With all the people killed as the story goes enough to run the water RED!, it has a history. There is a road thats on private lands that would take us outsouth towards Dalhousie. It's past the old hydro plant in back of V.J Rices. They will need to check with thier insurance company first. It would be the first time anything bigger then a fourwheeler has run it. If we can get a key we could go see the old steam ship and the old plane crash in Dalhousie. The ship is about 50ft long and sits in the middle of the woods with NO brook or ponds around There's also the old train switcher that's out in the middle of the woods. All in the same general area. This may take some doing to get us all in there. It's Bowater's land.

I had some company from the states last year who used to live around here...he took a drive out the ol' Liverpool road and came out the other end...he had no problems going all the way through in his 2wd Van...except for the crazy amount of brush scratches from the growing in Alders... Jeff

Thats what I mean Jeff. It's not a hard run by any means. I figured with the snow it may make for a better run. I believe dave is talking about another section comming in from Springfield. Many, many moons ago I tried going from Kedj. across to the military camp off the #10. I got to the lake but could not find a way around. It was winter and I had Joc with me. No chains for the ice and only had one shot back up an awsome hill. Man did I feel stupid From that day forth I've never left home without enough stuff to live for several days. I'm going back to find a way around the lake. I know it's there, someplace
