Any thoughts on these. Can anyone make similiar ones. He sells the bracket without d-rings for $30.

Same design as the style I have made in past years. I don't have my back plates that wide and use 1/4 inch plate. The slow part is drilling out 1" stock for the mount.
I see he calls them D-Ring mounts. Real D-rings look like a "D". The one's shown if your looking for them are refered to around here as "Anchor Shackles". Don't buy the cheaper non rated one's. They are available in a lot of discount hardware places. Look for one's with a load rating, which is raised lettering on the shackle.
Good marine shops sell them. I've found GOWS Homehardware to be the lowest price around. I buy 5/8 one's for under 7 cdn. Nice to get hitch pins so you don't have to unscrew them. I use lynch pins to complete the set up.

I've never seen many CJ's that I'd trust pulling off the rear crossmember. You're better off integrating something like that into a custom bumper that mounts to your frame.

Thanks for the input - very true about the cross member vs. frame attachment. Does anyone do metal fab work that could rig up something similiar but attach to the frame?

Craig Bennet at APJ's makes great stuff from his home garage. Stop by and have a chat with him.
