couldn't come up with a way to beef up my stock inverted Y steering. i have a skyjacker tierod on there, but i've personally seen 2 break right b4 my eyes. didn't trust it. i tried to think ahead to YJish steering when i made my tracbar and mounts so the angles will be parallel. it will be painfully obvious if i screwed it up when i finished the steering. This is just a D30, i didn't want to get into cutting new tapers in my knuckles to flip the tierod on top, or adding the popular 3/4ton Chevy steering. the steering would be stonger than the little knuckles. polishing a turd and all that. so i scavenged 2 complete yj steering set-ups and beefed them up. one full set of spares is always nice, all set up and brand new! milling off the stabilizer hole, so i can sleeve over the entire tierod. i filled in the hole with an old taper and welded it in. milled holes for rosette welds purdy welding. the end of the sleeves are cut fishmouth to spread the load of an impact. you don't want to just straight cut the sleeve, the edge will cause a stress riser. ie: that's where it will bend. ......more later in the day. this is a "real-time" post.
