RCMP and DOT have a major road block on Glendale ave. between Bedford and Sackville. they are doing road side MVI's and have jacks and jackstands.
!!!!Please avoid this area!!!!!
they have already pulled over one of the club member and gave a hard time about tires

I was pulled over and they gave me a hard time about my tires being out 3/4 of an inch past the Bushwacker Flares. Gave me 10 days to order...get shipped in...and have new wider flares installed or i will be fined and have my MVI revoked!!!

wow! That's such BS. So what kind of coverage do they look for? top, front, rear of the tire? was that 3/4" of tread past the flares?

aparently the flares have to COMPLETELY cover the tires. but... according to the MVI manual, flares have to EFFECTIVELY REDUCE the spray exiting the rear of the vehicle. i'm running 33x12.5 with 6in extented Bushwackers. how big of a flare do i have to put on it?

Or, get some garden edging or similar plastic and rivet it on to make up the width

Yeah, just trade someone for some skinnier tires and get it re-inspected. Give me a shout if you want to borrow mine for the weekend or something.
That inspection station might be right outside my work... I'm going to go point and laugh at all the rusty junkers they have pulled over.
Are there that many accidents and deaths releated to vehicles that were not road worthy? I don't get why we have such strict inspection rules compared to the rest of North America? Except for the obvious cash grab.

Thanks I am going to take a trip to the RCMP station tomorrow sometime to fight this. As it states in the MVI manual " every motor vehicle shall be equipped with mudguards, fenders, quarter panels and/or mud flaps ADEQUATE to reduce wheel spray or water from the roadway to the rear of the vehicle, unless the spray or splash is reduced effectively by the body of the vehicle." I have done this by replacing the stock ones with larger ones. I will keep you posted.

I am glad to see them off the 103 for a change, you are fighting a loosing battle just go with the skinny tire smile say thank you for your wisdom the RCMP is there to protect them from harm DOT are not law enforcement officer. the good part there aint enought of them to do the job and the RCMP is buzy so 2 or 3 club member get stop a year. Just look at the triangle MVI, DOT, RCMP , not one with the same rule book . my two flares Luc

I just saw a truck with a wooden bed and some horns mounted on the hood being inspected, hahaha.
I wonder if horns were standard equipment on a ranger, lol.
They set up this MVI on the Glendale extension about once a month; I believe that is what they call profiling... I have never been through an MVI check in the Southend of Halifax... food for thought ;D

They also like to put roadblocks on the exit and on ramps to the McKay Bridge on the Dartmouth side too. Ditto with the Robie St approaches to the same bridge

Hey now, I drive a rusty old Junker. The problem with getting smaller tires for inspection is when you put your big tires back on and they get you at a check and remove your mvi sticker....it could end up being a vicious circle. I think i'll be using some garden edging for my front....it'll look like hell....but then again it is a rusty 'ol junker
