Well, I took the JK into Hfx Chrysler Dodge today and dropped it off. About an hour later they call me and inform me that they would not be covering my broken axle shaft because of the scratches on my jeep, the mud underneath and the dented front bumper, and the CB Radio, it is very clear to them that it has been taken off road and they will not warranty against abuse! After forcing myself to sit down and take a breath so I didnt walk in there and turn that place upside down, I decided to go over and speak with their Service Production Manager, he told me the whole speal about being abused and off road blah blah blah......I pleaded my case about how what we do is safe, it's not abusing, arent' jeeps designed for this stuff, and last but not least.....it happend in the snow. NOPE! No luck.....the answer iwas NO, he even went as far as suggesting it actually happend on the trail and didn't actually break until Saturday night! So basically I have a brand new JEEP, that can't be driven in the snow, on the road or anywheres for that matter because if something breaks........they will just look at the scratches and say......"it's been off road so it's been abused sorry no warranty." LOVELY!!!! Times like this......I hate to say this but.....I really do ask myself......why the hell did I trade my truck in for something I cant even use because as soon as there is a problem, I am labeled as an abusive off roader. He then asked if I needed a shuttle home....i told him NO, and went and seen the Dealer Principal, Andrew McPhee.....Now Andrew and I have had discussions before from when I purchased the Jeep and the sh*t show of an experience that was, Andrew was quick to get me a shuttle home and as I was leaving he told me not to worry, the Jeep would be looked after under warranty. Thanks Andrew.......but what the frig??? What does this mean? I am so confused with these dealerships, warranty's, what's coverd, what's not, what trail rated means, why they put a locker in the rear end of my jeep if it's only made for the street.....oh man.....im rambling, but it's because im so frustrated. Would anyone like to share their thoughts with my wonderful experience i had today......or kindly remind me that having a Jeep is a good thing.

I don't know what to tell ya man. I took mine into Dartmouth Dodge with some mud on it and scratches to get a locker problem looked at, and they fixed it no problem (although they charged me the $100 deductible for work that might not have cost that lol, but I didn't want to piss them off and dispute it). That's weird...

I know....I hear of so many people going here and going there with issues with parts on their Jeeps and everything is done no problem. I have heard of guys taking Jeep in coverd with mud with bent parts and telling them directly they did it off road and still having them replaced. I have no idea, what to think........or what to do? Maybe Mr. Donald McGinn (Service Production Manager, Hfx Chrysler) Just doesn't like JK drivers...........You know what us JK drivers are like.

Just wondering if the service manager is just being an a-hole or is this DC / dealer(s) avoiding trying to do warranty work because they are getting close to go under.

Well everyone has to have that first fight in order to get things looked after...I have had it as well.....ALTHOUGH!!!!! and this is my experience and opinion. You have to use some common sense when going in for warranty work. You can sit there and say well I didn't clean it and they covered this and that, but how long do you think it will be before the mechanics get sick of prying through the mud to get at the problem...I would say not long, so when they get pissed then they are going to use any excuse to NOT cover something under warranty. Not only for you, but the next person from the club who comes in as well. Clean the damn mud off so they can't cry abuse. As far as modding your rig is concerned. Form a rapport with the mechanic and when you do then take it to the same one every time if possible. Go in and talk to the guy when thinking about doing mods and get their opinions. Whether you believe me or not, if they suggest something then try your best to do it. Example: Mine suggested to me that my winch controller box was blocking air to my rad and that is why I had an overheating problem. Did I totally agree, probably not, but I respect his opinion and moved it. I have also asked his opinion on all mods that I have done BEFORE I have done them and have had minimal problems with getting warranty work done. Of course if I come down on a rock and bend my tie rod I don't expect them to replace that under warranty either. Of course this only applies until the warranty runs out and then you take it to APJ's where they like digging through mud....LMAO...that is false as well as I always clean it before I take it out to the boys too.... ;D ;D Rant over....

Just have to note one thing.....I agree exactly what your saying John however My JK is not modded in anyway and is fully stock and when I mean mud on the bottom it's not really mud just muddy water stains.....I always make sure my JK is clean in and out and top and bottom before taking it in......Just a personal thing I guess.....i hate working on muddy/dirty vechiles and I just try and keep that in mind when I take my vechiles in for service.

As stated before, I believe I would clean it before servic, not to hide anything , but as a courtasy to the mechanic. We wheelers usualy dont mind diging through the mud, we put it there ;D I smile whenever I find mud caked on good How thay can put a locker in, a 4wd vechical, and say it shouldnt be used off road WTF? May as well buy a car than, and their ad's show them off road I believe this could be fought, if push came to shove. But as others stated, knowing your mechanic, and takeing his advice(Thay work on them everyday,,,,) also I bet a coffee would go a long way Gl man. DA Dog

I've appreciated the warranty service I've received on my 04 Liberty. I don't hide the fact that I've taken mine offroad occassionally and they definately know about my 2.5" suspension lift. Their only warranty concern is the size of tire I run on.
I've heard that the Jeep "lifetime" warranty is very restricted, perhaps that's what the service department manager is trying to follow.
I think you handled it very well Dugie, you kept your cool and took your problem to the sales manager. If you didn't get satisfaction from him I would have suggested to go to the head of the dealership then Chyrsler Canada.

as has been said here before - get to know your mechanic, not easy in a large shop but you can always ask the service manager who takes care of most of the particular type of vehicle you have and talk to the guy - coffee and donuts go a long way even to the service manager and counter people; get to know their names and recognize them - in short make it personal for them and they will return the favour No this won't solve every problem but maybe it'll help out somewhat -
I used to ask for the guy I knew and took it to him when he was available; depending on the problem I called the guy and asked when he wasn't too busy to look at it, not just when I could drop it off to anyone
