wow, lots of work in one day! so are you using the new frame? the stocker sounds pretty bad. Hmm, Jeepers must be wimps when it comes to frame repair ;D j/k Its solid in the right places, just needs some plating and restoration. The Roach was waaaaaaaaay worse than this one Oh, and the original drivetrain is staying. That is the most bad-ass 6 I've ever heard, and I've raced with old 240z's. T176/D300 should hold up for what they want to do too.

Oh man, reread Rob's old 8.8 swap thread. He's got creepy foreshadowing skills: Better yet... keep his axles and get a jeep to put them in seriously weirded out right now, lol ;D

Brought back some goodies after last weeks successful mission to the Insurgency's ammo dump in Truro. Toyota solid front axle and matching (narrow) rear. They are basically cores to be rebuilt to spec. Also scored a CJ power steering pump that Mo just wanted the flat pitman off of. Glad we found this! Paul

After some serious thought and discussion, we kinda came to an idea of where we are headed with this project. At first it was just going to be a 'get it on the trail ASAP' deal, but plans grew and we've got some cool stuff in store for this build. So because of that, we decided to use the new frame instead of trying to fix the old one. But the frame was made 33" wide front to back, and the original CJ frame is 27.5" front and 36" back, and the spring spacing on the yota axles is 29" and 39". So a compromise of 29" front to match the toy axle but to keep it as narrow as possible so big tires won't rub frame/springs. The rear we wanted stock CJ 36" so the exhaust and gas tank would fit same as the old frame, and 39" was wider than the body mounts and wouldn't have worked. It'll give a bit more leverage on the spring and more clearance between the frame and tire during flex. So today we decided to start on the frame... then everyone ditched me and I was left on my own to move around that fawking heavy 1/4" frame Chopped out the crossmembers. Plasma'd 3 sides of the tube were the frame would widen from 29" to 36". I did some maths and figured out I needed about a 7deg angle, and if I notched out 1/4" that would be close. Over the length of the frame even 1/2deg is a lot, so it'll need to be fixed right on later. Cleaned up the area of the notches and weighed them down to hold the angle. Tacked it up. Both angles tacked. Other side finished. Cut the old front crossmember to give me 29" on center. Tacked on. Squared up the front section and welded on a temporary crossmember. Squared up the rear to 36" on center. I measured the angles and the rear section needed to shift to the drivers side to square up the entire frame. I cut the tacks and leaned on the frame to get it to start shifting. Then used a ratchet strap to pull it exactly square. Tacked on the new wider rear crossmember. Then tacked up the angled cuts again. One new frame, ready to have all the rust ground off and be finish welded. Paul

Good job Paul!! working by yourself sucks believe me but in some ways you tend to get a lot more done as your thinking in your own train of mind. Also the in-boarded rear spring perches will make it flex a lot better.

yeah man, even if that took all week, its worth it. looks great, now you have a solid platform and won't be spending time patching a crack every time you wheel it.
