Use an ohm meter to check for continuity between the two solder points on the glass (unlug the connections before checking)
I would suspect that if the grid has a break in it, then the light will not come on.

Could it have anything to do with the side mirror being broken? it is a heated mirror and im assuming that the defrost button controls that also ..

Does one mirror defrost? Check/clean the connection on the rear window too. That coils of black wire where the power goes to the window Defroster. There is a light just above the button which should come on when pushed.

Yeah the light doesnt come on at all .. and no the other mirror does not defrost ... i will try and clean the connections on the rear though... like i said i can hear something clicking over by the fuse panel on the passenger side so that tells me its trying to come on at least

If it was a dead realy would i still here the clicking from the relay when i press the defrost button? relays fail in 2 different manners. 1. coil failure = no click 2 contact failure= click but no current flow either way tis still dead.
