Just a quick question about inspections. Does not having working DRL constitute a fail for the inspection? My wife brought the ZJ in today and that was the only problem with mine. It was never a problem before I am just wondering if it is now since you have to have lights on all the time now.

Shouldnt be? as don't they not check lights horn and a few other things because it's our responsibility to have working lights? Besides just turning on the lights with the switch should be fine..
My cherokee did not have them (it was american) and it passed no problem.
im sure an official MVI guy or gal will chime in thou

Yes they do have to work. And we still check operation and aim of the headlights. Its the side and rear lights that is the responsable of the owner. But a good mvi inspector should check the other lights as well, at least I do infact I still check vehicles over the same way I allways did, lights, wiper, horn, rusty brake lines the whole bit cause I have a wife and 3 kids on the roads with the other junk out there Later Darren

I don't understand the whole daylight running lights issue. Some newer vehicles I see on the road have them and some don't yet I thought every vehicle built after 1994 had to have them.
I agree that if your vehicle came from the factory with DRL then they should work to pass the MVI. Heck I once had a Honda Civic that failed the MVI because of a rear wiper motor that didn't work.
One thing I always seems to get burnt on is my rear taillights. I never think to do a walk around my vehicle before I head to the garage for my MVI.

Those are US vehicles, that don't have DRL's when new. It infringes on their rights or something like that. I personally think DRL's are an excellent idea. Too many people out there not running their head lamps when they should. Just my $0.05 worth. U know inflation and all........... ;D

I disconnected my DRL's.. after they passed the law.I always liked just the oranges and keep them on at all times. At first i kept my low beams on until I noticed all kinds of vehicles who had nothing at all. Do oranges count? All late model GM vehicles only utilize the orange lights. Personally I think what I'm doing is safer as my tail lights are on too.. just a thought..

We just bought a used vehicle from the USA and we needed to have the DRL module installed before we could get a sticker (or maybe even register it?). The fact that it came from the factory without them was irrelevant. Should be in here somewhere: www.gov.ns.ca/snsmr/rmv/inspection/inspection_manual.pdfJonathan

My 2005 SX-2.0 puts on the "oranges" as the DRLs from the factory, that being said, I always turn on my headlights fully when I get in the car, see way too many people driving around at dusk with just the DRLs on.

Donna had it fixed anyways and I had actually intended to get it replaced before inspection but the earthquake down here happened. I agree with the fact that you should be driving with lights on all the time I just wasn't sure if it was a must. Thanks for clarifying Darren.

Yes I know, so many newer cars use the amber marker lights for DRLights, makes no sense to me how they get away with it, they are totally useless on the highway. Mostly GM's I've seen.

orange lights are only good if they are brighter than your park lights. on the dump truck i got dual filament orange lights with the park and flasher wires together, so they're bright all the time. the weigh man said this was good for daytime running lights

For older vehicles (pre drl) the markerLights is all that is needed. But headlights would be safer. Except for my Omega "sx" the paint is brighter than the headlights ever where ;D ;D
