At the garage this afternoon, I got quite a shock. The catalyic converter is gone on the 5.9 ZJ. Car quest wants $270 and the local Chrysler dealership wants just under $500. You would think this thing was made of gold. Does some in the club sell for less or is carquest's price reasonable?

You should be able to get an aftermarket hi-flow one for a cheaper price. I'll check and see if I can get a stock replacement one any cheaper for you tomorrow.

Actually, and quite literally, they use platinum in the construction of cats...hence the stupid pricing...

One for my Dakota was a outrages price, had a real bad pinging and bouncing noises. Took it off, beat it out with a broom handel, put it back and have not had an issue in 3 years.

On valley roads I get 18 to 22 mile per gallon. On the 101 highway with cruise set at 100 to 105 = 28 to 31 miles per gallon. Now this is an American built ZJ and that could be calculated using an American gallon. If the electroics are set up on the American gallon, I'd be greater numbers using Canadian gallons. These are the numbers displayed on the overhead screen.

My 5.2 limited is showing 13.8mpg now. Mainly city with a 15 minute commute @70 to 80 km/h. Generally I see about 18mpg in summer combined. $50 to Halifax from Sydney (about 450 kms)+ about 22mpg
