CB question

I have everything to setup my CB, but I am a newb and want to do it myself.

I've done a google search and returned some decent results but nothing that's really written for someone like myself, so i've come up with a few questions.

1) Does the antenna MOUNT have to be secured to a metal surface?

2) I have 24awg wire kicking around (i think from old speakers i installed in my dodge shadow years ago) can i use that to extend the power wire to my cb receiver? its rated at 3.5amps for chassis wiring but only 0.5 amps for maximum power transmission, i noticed it is slightly smaller than the wire that comes out of the cb receiver.

that pretty much covers it.
