Just wondering what the best axel (and most likely the best value) would be for a rear swap for disc brakes on a 92 XJ? An 8.8 out of an Explorer or the rear out of a ZJ/WJ? I heard that the 8.8 is a little narrow and I am not even sure what kind of axel it is for a ZJ/WJ.

The rear in a ZJ is a 44 when V8 equipt from '96 and up (?). However it has an aluminum housing. This is a bit weaker and it is harder to get lockers and parts for. Most seem to put the 8.8. in from the explorer. I've seen that some explorers had 8.8s w/rear disk brakes, limited slips and 4:10 from the factory.Good luck

No ltd slip. However the 230 some horse power help to power through.

I did 8.8 in my xj. Easy to put in - strong rear end. Only like 1" narrower, should not be a problem. Had to weld on new purches, welded the tubes, new shock brackets, and new flange assembly to bolt to drive shaft.
