2004 TJ 4.0 litre Cranks over, but will not start, shows Code P0340 Cam Posn sensor. I assume that is on the right side of the block, where the distributer used to be. Any special precautions or procedures for replacing it?
Also, any used ones around/near Amherst NS or Sckville, NB as I am stuck up there.
Thanks, Wayne

There was a recall on the 4.0s for this (might not have been 'til the '05s though?) - I think once you replace it you have to resynch the cam/timing. I have to run out now but there were a bunch of posts about this over on the Rubicon Owner's Forum, I'll check when I get back.

UPDATE: Called the dealer, and there are no recalls or Bulletins on my jeep. Pulled the cam position sensor off, and found the little magnet had fallen out of place. I crazy glued the magnet back in place, and the jeep started right up. BUT, there is a lot fo play in the shaft for the oil pump drive. I think the rotating shaft might have actually been hitting the magnet, and knocked it loose. So, only place in the maritimes that had both pieces in stock is Reliable Motors in charlottetown. The parts are on their way, and I will reinstall later today.
I would recommend anyone with that style of 4.0 litre with over 100,000 kms remove the cam posn sensor and check the play in the shaft.

Well, new parts are installed, started right up, and runs fine. I simply installed the new parts so the orientation was the same.
On the old oil pump drive, the oiling hole was plugged with chewed up aluminum, and the shaft was loose enough in it to rattle when you shake it.

You aren't driving it enough if you aren't over 100 k yet. The top part of the oil pump drive is not sealed. There is a small alignment hole on the outside of the housing, and there is no seal under the sensor. Mine had a bit of dirt/mud in it which may have contributed to the premature wear out. If anyone does a lot deep mud or water, there may be mud in it.
