Hey all. I am in the process of buying a 95 XJ with a bum tranny. The one in the 92 is in no shape for a donnor. So what I am asking is will any auto tranny from an XJ with a 4.0 work as a swap or is there a specific one that I have to use? Also if anyone has any tips for the install please pass them along.

You'll want a trans with a 23 spline output shaft, found in "91 and up XJ's. I think after '95 the wiring changed, so stick to 91-95.
The 2 top bolts on the bell housing are a pain to get at, but it you lower the back of the trans down, it makes it easier. The heads on those 2 bolts are like torque bits, so you'll need a socket that fits them.
The trans lines are quick disconnect, but if they don't want to come out, you can unscrew the big fitting out of the trans.
The dipstick tube is in 2 pieces and if you remove the upper half, it'll make getting the trans out from under the Jeep easier.
Make sure you unhook all the wiring, 2 big plugs and the CPS. Also the TV cable going to the throttle body.
Rest is just standard stuff for taking a tranny out.
