Now that Rough Country has their own winch line with a very attractive web price I figured I should have some personal experience. Nice features are synthetic rope and standard wireless remote with every winch. I will post an update after the weekend but as we all know it normally takes the test of time to really tell. Rough Country have tested this line of winches for almost a year now so it's not something that has been dropped on the market without giving it a try.

Cool that they are adding options like synthetic line and a remote.....but this 'new winch on the market' thing is getting old. You don't need to test it, its been done.
From one glance I can tell it is exactly the same as a Tabor thats been around for 5 years, and its another Warn M8000 copy.....which is a pretty good design, they have a good rep and last a long time.
I paid $650 for a 12K 5 years ago on an 'introductory deal' for Tabor. How much lower is it now that the Chinese have made a couple of million of them?
ps: I have that exact same stool, with the exact same white stuff on it. Damn Chinese!

I figured, that too, but I have these are not exactly the same, yes knockoff's but mfg'd in different plants because of suddle differences in castings. Really small but you can tell it's been coppied, my fear is selling 30 of them and find the same problem because of a Chineese knock-off of a Chineese knock-off. Just doing my homework thats all, and pricing starts at 379.00.

I wasn't saying they are bad at all, The Smitty's seem pretty good in my Opinion. I've sold a few and everyone is pretty happy with the product. I'm going to pick up an X20 10000lb just to try out the technology They're running a MOSFET controller so no Solenoids too fail. Also I've only ever seen 2 Broken SmittyBilt winches 1 was user error piled up the cable and cooked the motor and the other was broken in the box, Broken free spool lever. Another point of interest for me anyways is that Some of the earlier SmittyBilt's and RR Winches even have T-Maxx printed on the wiring.

Pros: No recoil if broken No hand ripping barbs Lighter Stronger easier to handle doesn't kink
Cons: more expensive more Susceptible to rub wear if you don't have a rope guard.

Pros: lighter & easier to handle rope. less stored energy if it breaks = safer... Cons: less abrasion & heat resistance, should use protective sleeves whenever it comes in contact with a rock or tree while winching = more maintenance and higher replacement costs.
Edit: Dan beat me to it...

If the 379 price is with rope that would be a smoken deal for someone even if thay wanted rope. Get your winch now with wire and change to rope when need or affordabel.... Good chance for a cheap major upgrade. Da Dogg
