Looking to upgrade the tunes in the Jeep...not very stereo savvy or interested in a high end expensive stuff or taking up any of the interior space...just something to get a little better sound when I crank it a bit with the top down. Anyone got any proven relatively easy upgrades floating around? Brands and models would be great. Thanks John

sony explod i allways found was the best bang for your buck good quality and not overly hard on the wallet ... iv had a sony explod cd player in my car since 06 and works awsome i have since put it in the cherokee...... just when u go to look at cd players watch that watts u want at least 45watts per speaker
and sony explode speakers r decent as well .... i have had alot of trouble with rca and will only buy sony for car steroes
stay away from future shop!!! they r fawkers for warrenty work
best bet would be to go to a indapendent shop not sure what u have in hrm but they usally do best work from what i have found

I was able to mount decent quality 6" speakers in the soundbar and doors of my old TJ, made a huge difference over the stock setup, and then a basic new head unit with a little more umph. I found that the mids and highs were more important than bass with the top down.

alpine would make a good deck, they also have connections for ipod's and other inputs. as for upgrading your factory speakers, any good quality 2 way speaker would be a good upgrade. and if you want a sub, they make shallow mount subs now that take up little to no space (compared to normal subs) a soundstream sub i sold to a guy a while back was only half the thickness of a mrs dash bottle. (about 2-3")

for years compete'n I have ran the Premier version of the pioneer's just cuse they have more power and that's what you'll want for cruisin with the top down the more watts the better!. For speakers.....u get what you pay for......id stick with replacing the factorys with some 2 or 3 way speakers and if you have sound bar just swap out the speakers for something better...........with subs,if your looking to save space have someone who builds boxs look at the jeep and give you some ideas where they would put things. I have built a lot of sub boxs from big crazy stuff like what's in Bill's car to small stuff that fits up under the trunk lids of hondas, but workin in a TJ most stereo guys would prob try to fit a 8 or 10 in the centre console. But I think some tj's come with that.

Thanks guys. I do have the factory sub in the console, but it's not that great. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket sub that I can just pop in there in its place?

don't know if there's one that will just drop in place...but there is ones that will fit...might need to make some brackets or something like that. just measure the diameter of the factory sub and look for one that size. throw an amp on it and your good to go there

chevelles are awsome for building nice box in the trunk and port them up threw the rear deck, and you just build a false backing in the trunk! Never see them but you'll hear and feel them!. And for a sub to drop in, just take it apart and mesure, and don't forget maggnet depth cuse most aftermarket subs have bigger magnets.

Thanks guys. I do have the factory sub in the console, but it's not that great. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket sub that I can just pop in there in its place? Stock sub is 6.75" and as far as I know no one makes an actual direct replacement in that size. You can go with a 6.5" sub, or can fit an 8" sub with some modification of the stock sub box. There are a couple good writeups over on Rubiconownersforum, I'll try to track some down later if I have time. As far as upgrading the sound the stock speakers are decent, and should be Infinitys if you have the stock sub. Upgrading the head unit is probably the best bang for your buck. I ran both Sony and Pioneer head units in my rig at one point or another and the Sony deck was much better to get some bass out of the sub while the Pioneer deck was better at producing clear mids and highs. The sony deck was also $100 cheaper lol. Futureshop has a couple good deals on now: Pioneer Ipod control deck (similar to the one I used to have): www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/id/10163044.aspxSony deck I used to have: www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/sony-sony-mp3-wma-car-deck-with-ipod-control-dsxs100-dsxs100/10147217.aspx?path=3d0495504dfbb7f2b4e1684ff7e2a34cen02James
