Thanks James, Put the soft top on yesterday and did some investigating. The fuse was blown on the sub so I replaced it and the sub started working again but sounded like hell...turned it up a bit and promptly blew the fuse again...sounded like it was toast anyway. I pulled the front speaker cover just to see what was in there and it is a different looking speaker....I guess you would consider it a 4x6 maybe. Didn't look at the one's in the soundbar but one of them doesn't sound too healthy...keep in mind I did have a teenager who borrowed the Jeep so I am sure if cranking the tunes is enough to blow anything he would have found that point...lol. Will have to check out the size of the one's in the sound bar to see what size they are and start checking around for prices.

Unplug the wire to the sub on both ends and test it with a continuity meter(ohmmeter) , it may have a short to the body somewhere. This is strictly about electricity, I know nothing about stereos other than the stores sell them.

The speakers in the sound bar are 5.25", in front they are 4x6. You can fit a 5.25" speaker up front if you build some brackets to fit the mounting holes, and can fit a 6.5" in the soundbar with some trimming of the surround I believe.

I upgraded to an Alpine from future shop last year boxing day sales, before you walk out the store with the deck you need to ask if the deck will control your power amp for the sub.

The install of an aftermarket head unit is surprisingly easy. If in doubt... CVO!
You can get the 1.5 din dash kit at Walmart for under $20. Also wiring harness... just check on the package to see if it lists your vehicle.
As James said, the best bang for your buck is the head unit with the stock sub, provided your son didn't blow it up. Change the speakers later. You will be surprised what a difference a high powered head unit will make, provided your speakers and sub are functional.
There is an excellent thread with pics on jeepforum.com about fitting an aftermarket sub in place of the oem. Any way you look at it, it's going to be cutting something to make it fit though.
