I had an oil pan like that once. I couldn't understand how it was so rusty when it was always covered with oil.

Looks good Chad Did you have to modify the length of either driveshaft ? How does your total driveline length compare to the 4 cyl?

both driveshafts are modified, not sure on the lengths right off, but i know my rear driveshaft is now longer than it was stock, but the engine is alot further forward than the 2.5 . haha yeah rear main seal is leaking and i need to get another one on there, is covered in more mud/oil than rust, but your right hard to understand.

Bringing back another old thread of mine to keep me motivated to do a bit of work here and there. Picture of my yj stripped down a while back. The old chev motor. Needs a rebuild soon. May wait to do that over the winter. So lately I have been cleaning up the frame a bit and put on a couple fresh coats of paint. Not being too picky. This is no show jeep, haha. There are a couple spots to be welded I found on the frame. Rear passenger side shock tower has a hole there, 2 frame body mounts have small holes, and rear gastank crossmember is going to get reinforced a bit. And here's the main reason for all this... cursed rust. It sickens me, haha. My rims are in serious need of some paint. So after many hours and many grinding wheels here is how the frame is looking with a couple coats of paint on to it. Started to paint all of my exhaust with high heat header paint but ran out. This pic also shows how a couple of the mounts looked. needs some new metal. And here is my new body mount kit. I plan on picking up some pipe and some more washers to use for the metal mounting sleeves. Before it goes back together plans are to raise the gas tank up an inch using the factory skid plate for now by cutting an inch off of each side and bending it again. Eventually plan on moving the motor and trans mounts up an inch too and making a new skidplate of some sort. Driveshaft needs to be shortened up a bit, D35 is going to get welded solid to see if i can break one, newer set of seats/belts to go in and that's about all i have planned for now besides the many hours of reassembly.

you will have to mod the 2nd last cross member to get your tank up higher, i thought of the same thing, but your tank sits in under it about 3"

the crossmember won't have to be modified if he is only going up an inch or so, which is what he said. just cutting off an inch of the original gas tank skid and welding it back on works fine, it doesn't get much easier than that.

It won't even involve any welding. i'm going to cut the end off the old skid and then bent the metal 90 degrees and drill new holes in it. Going to see how high up it will go before it hits. I figure an inch and a half just looking at it.

even easier. are the new body mounts lift ones, or stock height? I'm pretty sure there is about an inch of clearance at stock height.

Well after a closer inspection today, you are correct wade. It does fit up tight against it. But it will only require a bit of trimming and I figure the extra inch is worth it. Since my crossmember needs to be reinforced there anyways i am going to cut it up. I got the idea from this site www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/fuel/raisedyjtank/ but apparently I suck at reading because it says he trimmed his up too.

Well seeing how it's pouring down rain today I don't think I'll get anything done so I'll post a few updates. Too wet out for the camera. I'm on vacation for the next bit so i'd like to get some more done. Since my last post I have cut up the rear crossmember to allow the fuel tank to be raised. Its a bit flimsy after so it will definitely be reinforced. I got a fresh coat of paint on the whole exhaust system.
Picked up the rest of the hardware I needed to make the body mount crush sleeve things, just need to cut everything to length now. 7 dollars of pipe and a few dollars worth of washers is going to work much better for me than the 30 bucks x 10 the dealer wanted for new ones. Oh i also cut a bunch of pieces up to remake the passenger side rear shock tower. Just needs to get burned in.
