This is not a build thread... Bill R. was responsible for the original build and did an excellent job... however, this jeep has not seen duty in a while and was in need of an overhaul when I purchased it... hence the thread title. Figured I would start with the specs and a few pictures. 1952 M38 --fiberglass body --metal hood and grille AMC 360 --V8 from a wagoneer --edelbrock intake --Comp cam lifters, --valley pan oil mod --9:1 pistons --.030 over. --TFI ignition upgrade (dis cap / rotor from 79 ford 350 (460 v8) --Heads were polished and port matched by Vaugh Boone of local AMC bracket racing fame. T18 t-case --from a J truck with the ford 6.3:1 granny low D300 --ultra rare from a 1980 scout --the only D300 that will mate to a T18 without an adapter AMC20 rear axle --narrow track --one piece summers brothers shafts --lock rite --crane diff cover Dana30 front --narrow track --6 bolt hub pattern 33 BFG MT's --old style --custom bead locks Rochester Quadrajet Carb --750cfm Aluminum Radiator --'BeCool' drag racing rad --single or dual... see 5th post Rear Swing Out bumper --RicRack with a Bennett Built Hinge Ramsey 9000 Winch --synthetic line --solenoids gone On board air --tank mounted on passenger side rear fender well Other items: Optima Red Top (the good one), CB with PA and external speaker, Complete bestop softtop, 2 sets of soft doors, bikini top, tow bar, spare front axles, spare tie rod, XJ limited seats This is how it looked upon purchase... Next post will outline things done so far... and things that need to be done.

Thx for the pic Rod. Things that needed attention right away: 1. Rear brakes were non existent 2. Bad front drivers ball joint 3. 2 stress cracks in the frame (frame is in great shape overall) 4. engine idle was steady at 2k 5. headers leaked 6. wiper motor gone 7. No turn signals or brake lights I took it too Andre because APJ's was involved in the original build and Andre knew the complete history of the jeep... seemed like a logical first step that he give it the once over. Andre did the brakes, ball joint, tuned the carb and fixed the idle problem which turned out to be a bad electric choke thermostat. Next it went to Rod's via Mike's dodge and a tow bar. Here is Mike fabing up a patch for the frame... with Rod's new pup. Frame is in great shape... just a couple of stress cracks. After the patch was done I rolled under to prime/paint the spots... then I got carried away and did the entire underside (everything! ) We removed the headers yesterday... and prepped the manifolds for installation. Some high temp flat black. Hoping to get it to the exhaust shop for a couple connectors later this week. Will post some pics of the header / manifolds later in the week.

Rad is either a single or dual core Be Cool drag racing rad. I seem to remember it's a cross flow design.... water makes two passes. The in and outlets are on the same side aren't they?

Signal lights / brake lights / wiper motors all fixed as of Friday past. Forgot to update that part. signal / brake lights turned out to be a fuse. We tested the fuse and it registered ok so we moved on to the grounds / flashers / wires etc... found nothing so we started again. This time we replaced all the fuses and bingo it worked. Note for others... even if the fuse looks good and tests fine... it could be bad. Grabbed a wiper motor at Binnacle which was suggested by hawkes... almost matched the drivers side one perfectly... wired them together and I now have what you could call wipers lol They are still sad in function and do not go back and forth at the same time b/c they are separate motors ... looks all fawked up when they are on (will deal with it later...needed wipers for inspection) So the immediate list as outlined above is pretty much done... manifolds are scheduled for tomorrow night. 1. Rear brakes were non existent2. Bad front drivers ball joint3. 2 stress cracks in the frame (frame is in great shape overall)4. engine idle was steady at 2k5. headers leaked6. wiper motor gone7. No turn signals or brake lights

Ok... so now the headers are crossed off the list... here they are sitting on the table next to Rod's new brackets. The headers are in good shape they just didn't seal to the head very well... manifolds back on seemed like the easiest fix... as the headers also rubbed on the steering rod and were tight on the clutch. Here is a pic from the fender well... you can see there is lots of room. I believe that side manifold is from a 304? from what I have read. Otherwise it exits right on the clutch (i have that one also) Picture near the clutch And a blurry one of the man who stood in the cold last night and helped me do this in the dark lol Thanks Mike! The jeep is at the muffler shop today getting the connectors put in... the rest of the exhaust is mint... and it is duals of course My only concern is running the pipe under the manual clutch because I am going to switch it to hydro... may have to have that side re-done later to tuck it up further. Will post pics of the finished job later.

ok... got the exhaust finished up yesterday... for now anyway. This is the side I was worried about... but as you can see from the pic there is lots of room straight down. He bent it slightly inward to miss the frame as it was close. This is the shot from the side.. it is lower than I wanted but that was where it had to be due to the manual clutch and length of the manifold. Still higher than the headers were though... so that is good. The boys at the shop had a little grin when they started it up after the work... nice rumble. It sounds great outside but inside with all the vibration/echo it is loud... I will be looking for ways to fix that at some point.
