Just a quick question. What rating should I used for the D-ring Shackles (Clevis Ring) and also what is the recomended Length, width & weight for a tow strap? ;D

I always believed the bigger the better. Can't tell you exactly what size to get that would be impossible lol. For your strap the biggest you can afford at the time. I personaly have a 27,000lb 3" x 20' or 30' ( haven't had to use it yet so I forget how long) and I still watch the PA flyer for a bigger one. Better to be too strong than not strong enough IMO.

The 18,000lb one or better for a strap. Like he says, the biggest one you can afford.
I personally have a 18k one, it is 2" wide by 30' long. It has gotten me (and others) out of many a stickly situation. But for the real bad stucks, bigger is always better.
For the d-rings, this is for tow points on your rig right? Just don't use em for linking tow straps togeather, they can kill when airborn. D-rings are very strong, anthing over 1/2" will do fine. I use 7/8" rings for my rear bumper.

Having a strap larger then 3 in wide is not required. If they get wet and cold they are a bastard to move around. The loops are to large as well. If we were using true recovery snatch straps then the weight of the tow vehicle is very, very important. These straps are like giant rubber bands and yank a person out. They are just incredible to use. I'll own one some day Stick with a 3 inch 30ft strap to begin with. Not always easy to get close to a stuck rig. I like carrying a 20ft one as well. Large mooring rope works awesome. This stuff is designed to give with swells. I have a piece thats about 25ft long with loops. I like this better then my straps. Watch out when buying webbing. I've seen some members buy without asking, winch extension straps. Places like Bridgeport can advise you of what your getting. Winch extension straps don't stretch! Now as for anchor shackles and yep thats what they are sold as. Often called D rings but a true D ring looks, well like a D. I like going with proper rated one's. They sell no name models but why bother when rated one's are only 3-4 dollars more. The 7/8th model is as large as I go. I'll go check the ratings later. I'm always learning new extraction ways from the Internet and enjoy trying them out! There are good ways and bad ways. I for one don't object to dragging out my gear for a stuck. New people don't need to go buy a ton of gear at first. Learn what works for you and then go buy gear.
