Hi guys and gals I have a quick question regarding homemade bumpers . Is it legal to make your own bumpers ? The ones that are on my GC where removed by the previous owner in a way that they will never go back on right . So I figured i would fab tube bumpers that will look and work much better .But someone at work told me that they not road legal and wont pass inspection. Any one know this fore sure ?

whoever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about. there is no law saying you can't build your own bumpers.

All the safety inspection manual states is that they must be of similar design to the original equipment, must provide equivalent protecton, and must be no higher than 22 inches above the ground (most of us are pushing that last one easily I'd say... That isn't very high) Here is a PDF version of the manual. www.gov.ns.ca/snsmr/rmv/inspection/inspection_manual.pdf

I was thinking that the guy was not right . I plan to use the profile of the plastic crap and make a tube version much stronger and better looking too . Plans are to do the front and back ones this summer and next summer take the plastic panels off of the doors and match the bumpers with some armor . Thanks for the responses always count on every one for quick and informative responses .

The current 'on the street' reality is that you can get away with whatever you want for bumpers. There is zero enforcement of the guidelines in the link.

I would hazard a guess that 60-80% of the jeeps on this board have at least 1 fabricated bumper. As far as I know, nobody has ever gotten grief for them. Just do it, you will have zero problems.
