Hey guys i have a 2001 jeep grand Cherokee and i am seriously considering purchasing the 8000lbs winch at costco for 349$. It slides right into the trailer receiver of my jeep and the plan was to get a receiver for the front as well so if i get stuck really bad i have to option to pull from the rear and the front. I dont have much experience with winches, does this seem like a good idea?? and is an 8000lbs winch sufficient??
thanks

Stop considering it immediately. Step away from the winch.

They are grabage..
Save the money and buy a good product. There was allot of people on this board that bought the costco/ champion winches only to be let down by breakage and poor performace. I am included in the sheep that bought one of these..
they are shit

Think of it this way. You are out wheeling, it is late and you get stuck. Are you willing to rely on a tool that saved you money six months ago? Whenever I buy anything for "our" ( ) jeep we try to get the most realible item at the time that we can afford, or wait and save for it. Best of luck in your hunt.

Its based on the Champion. Get one of the Warn knock-offs. image search them and get a feel for which ones look like the warn m8000. that's what you want in the cheap ones.

Stay away from the SmittyBilt XRC line as well, they have had major transmission issues as of late....

I saw one of those cheap ass ones rip off someone's chev when out wheeling. My dad bought a smaller one for his 4 wheeler and the spool that holes the cable ripped off when he was pulling himself out of a bog.
Some brands are preferred for a reason.

I have a 10,000lb Champion from Costco, no real issues with it at all.

I am running a Smittybilt x2o 10,000lb winch and have had no issues at all, but like I said there seems to be plenty of issue with the XRC series a quick search on pirate will show you that.... We recently started carrying Warrior Winches here at work Action Car Ant Truck Accessories (Action Truck Caps) www.warriorwinches.com/sub_offroad_winches.php all of there wiring is made by Superwinch and the Motors are all Warn they use 6.5hp Warns on almost everything. Lately the gearbox is there own unit based off of Warns design, I have not seen a single unit returned in 8 months (this includes everything from ATV to 12000lbers) we have been selling them. As for teh Costco (PA or Canadian tire Cheapo) Champions a guy I wheel with all the time has been beating on one of them for a couple of years without issue, it's been hot enough to melt the insulators on the side of the motor and still pulls hard. I know a guy running a Keep 9500lb winch too and he also seems to be having pretty good luck with that, Princess auto and Costco have them sometimes.

Thanks redkj666 im still considering the champion winch from costco, it seems to have really good reviews. I know warn winches are good to but its another one of those brand name mark ups i think.

OK, I disagree. I have one of them 9500lb Champion winches sense 2008, I have pulled out Jeeps, Fords, Dodges, Toyota's, cars, trees, boats, docks with mine with very little issues. I did have problems though and yes it broke when I needed it to make a jeep extraction easier but we got it out with a strap and lots of pulling. I never really wheel alone, and when I do I keep a real close eye on where I go and what I might get into. I have sense retired it cause it was slow, not that it don't work anymore. I replaced it with a Bulldog winch and not yet tried it but its sorta a Warn knock off. The reason I got that is because I got it from a supplier from work, or I would of got another Champion from Costco. Now haven said that you can always get a lemon. I think I was fortunate to have gotten a good one.
