Pardon the pun, I actually did get a new front drive shaft. The down side is...
Old stock shaft 39 and 3/4 inches long compressed New Shaft 38 inches long compressed
I am running a 4 inch lift, bump stopped to bijesus. Can I run this shaft without the fear of it popping out during extreme flex?
I am leaning towards yes but i just wanted to verify. Also I'll be going back down to stock height over the winter.
also
Splines are
Old 5 and 1/2 inches of travel New 6 inches of travel

being short is now a moot point as the ujoints are too wide to fit within the little tabs on the yoke. (the circumference of the cap fits perfectly and is the identical size of the old caps and sits in the yoke fine) The joint will just not seat because of the tabs.
suggestions?
Is this completely out of line or could I drill out the holes in the yokes and switch to a u-bolt style and grind the tabs down? the joints in this new shaft are exactly the width of the yoke.

actually a safer idea, does anyone know if a conversion joint exists? Oh yeah drive shaft is from an 03 rubicon, I should have known the ujoints wouldn't fit. duh

Switching from strap to u-bolt would not help any, once you grind those tabs off there would be nothing to keep the caps from flying out. I prefer the u-bolt style simply because using a 1/2" wench is easier then using that little tiny wench that takes forever to put in those small strap bolts.

U-bolts are the way to go.
