Well, after the weekend's run (which was a blast once I got my cheeks unclenched from the seat cushion) I decided that upgrades were necessary to sort out the crap fuel mileage I'm getting on the 35's. A Superchip was suggested, but these aren't available yet for the 2012's, and the price I got on Regearing to a 456 rear end is better spent on beer. A bit of looking around and I come up with the AEV Procal ($149-$299) as an alternative to spending the huge cash on regearing and I am hoping as a stopgap until the Superchip is released. Any thoughts on this? Where to buy? Thanks

Buy the gears. The return to stock like gearing will give more seat of the pants feel

put smaller tires on it for the street and when you want to go off roading put the 35 tires and rims back on or re gear it

The Procal won't help your fuel mileage any, it doesn't do any engine performance mods. On the flip side, it is 100 percent necessary to have a Procal on the 2012 if your rig is an auto tranny if you are going to re-gear. The 2012's have an additional speed sensor at the tranny that throws the rig into limp mode if the speed sensors at the wheels don't agree with the speed sensor at the tranny. The Procal will allow you to correct to your new rearend gear ratio and thus fix the tranny limp mode error code.

If you end up having to get a Procal National 4wd in Fredricton is where i got mine. They normally have them in stock and can have it to you the next day. I have the 2012 2dr auto 410 gears in and and it turns my 35" km2's perfectly. I'm getting 13.5L per 100km hwy and is reving 2200rpm at 100km/h. I probably won't end up buying a superchip when they come out with it because i'm happy with the power i have since i re-geared. I would suggest re-gearing.

Regear is about $2000 with the gears and labour and taxes. APJ or CVO can get you situated in the city. Not sure if Scott (Jeep GarageMahal) is doing gears in the GarageMahal but shoot him a PM and he will give you an answer and pricing if he does.

From what I have learned if you want it done right do a regear and while they are doing it put in the Autolockers. If you want it done cheap go with Procal or wait for Superchip.
