little light won't come on in the dash but goes in 4wd fine - plug on t-case looks ok - bad sensor ?

Mine is the same, sensor on top of case is gone, sometimes when it gets wet it flashes on and off.

4x4 light ? In a tj, ha my has not worked for years I did not know they have one , i will have to fix that in my jeep too Just to see what it looks like

Easy to check Bill. Just pull out the switch and test with a multimeter. It'll complete the circuit when the ball is pressed.

To know if the actual bulb works you can test the lights in the cluster. Hold the trip odometer button in and turn the key to on (but don't start it). It will cycle through everything in the cluster one at a time. I did this on mine and saw that 4x4 light come on for the first time ever!
