The bolts in the window pillars are "seized" to say the least.I sprayed, and gave them a good crack not to brake window though! Only one came out and the rest are getting warn and bit is slipping now and I'm not impressed.Anyone got any tips?I got some stainless brackets and lights yesterday for the LJ off Kijji and want to mount them somehow?

Nice purchase... I missed those on kijiji... you must have been fast.
Handheld impact driver with quality torx bits? You can't really apply heat there or risk ruining the paint.
Last resort is to weld "something" to the torx bolt that you can get a wrench on... like another bolt or a nut.
Replace with Hex bolts when you get them out, eh...

Drill them out then Heli-coil the holes.

drilling them out, into the floating nutsert? or is there something "real" to drill into?
I just weld a nut on, and spin them out, get new fasteners after. no need to waste your time if they are stripped.
I have drilled the heads off, then removed the bracket, and tried vise grips, it's a bit hit-or-miss, sometimes welding is still necessary.

Drill them out then Heli-coil the holes. Had good quality torx and took my time but it don't take much to strip them. I like the Heli-coil thing looks neat.Where can you buy them local?CT?

Before you weld nuts try heat from a good propane torch. They have blue lock tote on them from new !! If you are careful you will not hurt your paint ... Get a GOOD driver bit and impact driver...you could also spray wd40 in there from in side in the slot where your top latches to the windshield frame .... Good luck cool project!

There is a floating plate with nuts welded to it in there, you can't helicoil.
Pick all the paint out of the torx before you start trying to get them out. I have drilled the heads off, sometimes vicegrips will work, but one needed a nut welded to it.

Just went all through this with Len's jeep . Impact driver worked for all of the ones that Len didn't strip , I welded nuts on the others . Carefull , as when you take out the side windshield frame bolts , the Floating nut guy will drop out

I fear that if there is/when i go to hell that I will be sentenced to an eternity of removing lock-tite'd torx bolts that have been exposed to salt/rain/snow for 10 years with a size too small torx socket. If I can't get it out I will be sent for 40 lashings. I too had similar trials and tribulations with mine but in the end managed to get them all out.

What was the reasoning for Torx bolts anyway?.... If I recall, it was cheaper at the factory because the "robots" could turn them easier.
So there we go, catering to robots again.... :-D

Yeah I did some research before work this am and read of a "captured" nut in the windshield frame and if they break lose your done. All say to weld a nut is the best choice. What about drilling a smaller hole in bolt head and using a extractor bit?The heat drilling may help.I got one out and the rust was only on the first 1/8 of thread and the rest clean.

feel free, by all means, to try using an extractor, just remember those torx screws are only 1/4" or 5/16", and you will stand a chance of breaking the extractor. for the extractor, you will not only haqve to drill through the head of the bolt, but down the length of the bolt as well, to get a proper bite on it.

The extractor is a dumb idea as the bolt is small.Makes more sense I think to drill the head off remove bracket and weld a nut on and remove if not by vise grips.

that would be the better bet, or to weld the nut on the head, so you have more to weld to.
